Hola Andrea,
I am a (Mexico born) engineer married to an American working for Intel in the Portland area, . We have a house for rent, 5 minutes bus ride to downtown Portland, we lived there for 5 years, it's very family friendly. If your daughters are of elementary school age, the house is 1 minute walk from Ainsworth Elementary highly rated school, also Lincoln High school, and Portland State University are 5 minutes by bus. You can see the details searching for SW 2548 St. Helens Ct. 97201.
Buena Suerte!

My sister & I will be retiring by 2016 and thinking of moving to Portland, Salem or Eugene. We will have a fixed income so need info on Senior communities (Like a Manufactured Home Park), low income housing, transportation, Hospitals, Vets (for our cats). We wouldn't mind a MHP as long as the space rental is low. Tried to find Chamber of Commerce guide with all info. Is there any type of guide with all this info? Got one from a friend who moved to Texas called "DESTINATION DFW -the Ultimate Relocation Guide. Is there one similar to this guide for Oregon?? Would appreciate any feedback from anyone living in the Portland, Salem & Eugene areas as well. Thank you all in advance for your assist on this!

If you click on the market insider tab at the top you can see crime stats, info about schools, weather, even education level of the homeowners in the area, and tons more. Easily compare areas side by side. I use it all the time. There is a map view on market insider that will let you see restaurants, shops, grocery stores, churches, parks, museums... Its all there. You can also freely search all of the Oregon MLS to see homes for sale.

My daughter just turned 7 and my niece is 3. We live in the Hillsdale neighborhood in sw portland and we walk all over the place. Finding an area that is close to kid activities as well as adult was important to us. Kids needs lot of exercise and we need our sanity too. Portland is pretty cool in that there are many neighborhoods that are like mini towns. You have your grocery store, library, park, brewery, and school all close to each other.
