It might help to think of major streets that connect to the beaches because time is measured in traffic. Malibu maybe be closer to LA because it is considered LA county, though it is more north, entered from Sunset Bl, with shorter sandy beaches and hillside homes in the 2 million to 45 million range that are sprawled out above densely populated Pacific Coast Highway row of mostly 5-30 million dollar homes and guard gated communities. Then comes wide sandy Santa Monica Beach, accessed from the 10 Fwy or Wilshire. The homes are more neighborhood like with upscale dining and shopping for a mix of rent controlled apartments, condos from 300,000 to 2 million, and single family mostly ranging from one million to six . The arts district and Pico Blvd leads into Venice with many fun shops, bars, and galleries amidst crafstman homes and older neighborhoods from 400,000-2 million. Below the airport, following Culver Blvd through Playa Del Rey - also a small beachy area, is El Segundo, an old fashioned town with many bungalows from 700,000 to two million dollar homes, with a friendly vibe just above a small beach with airliners overhead.

Manhattan Beach follows after a half hour commute accessed from Rosecrans off the 405 with trendy dining and nightspots,a great sandy wide beach with volleyball courts, 2-5 million dollar new construction homes and many older bungalows from 800000-1.5 million. Then comes neighboring Hermosa, Redondo with Belmont Shore on the other side of Palos Verdes Peninsula. Priced between 400,000 to 2 million. Then if you have a half hour at 5am or an hour 45 at 8 am, you can aim for Orange County beaches off the 5 and 605 or straight off the 405. The community of Seal Beach is a little secret beach town, the kind you dream of, where you can call home.
