Murphy Way or Murphy Motorway as it ascends to the Edison maintenance roadways up the ridge is know also as DeButts Terrace. It was named after a long time resident and postman who lived there, owned much of the property and was an Original Malibu pioneer.

The residential road winds up the ridge as you are surrounded by absolutely gorgeous Mansions and Villas that provide luxury living at it's finest. To the East is Escondido Canyon with a waterfall that is a very beautiful and popular easy hike to see.

To the West is Ramirez Canyon that was a big part of the original Malibu Rancho cattle herding areas that let out at Smugglers Cove. In the 1950s the owner of Smugglers Cove started a weekend trailer park for celebrities to come and stay, fish, boat, eat, drink, hang out because of the incredible reefs and kelp beds that lie just off the coast and the beautiful and secluded beaches and coves. With a new name of PARADISE COVE this magical place became one of the most popular places to go in Malibu. Current values in Paradise range from $500,000 for a small trailer to $4,000,000 where Stevie Nicks just bought an awesome large 3 bedroom home and is making into a music studio.

Eventually it was completely developed into a spectacular neighborhood that produced some of the world's best surfers. It is the home of the world's best spear fisherman Jaime Padgett. It is not uncommon for him to pull 50lb Seabass out in front of the pier area that is just outside of the State and federally protected natural habitat area.

The entire area West (or North as most people think of it) up to beyond Point Dume and beyond is all protected area so the natural environment is preserved for future generations. There is no fishing allowed in these protected areas unless you connect with the commercial fishing boats that occasion the area.

The reefs are full of Halibut, Tuna, Seabass and many reef fish of all varieties and the snorkeling is funtastic.

To get back to the original question about elevation of Murphy Way one needs to know the exact address as it ascends from Pacific Coast Highway (30 feet) all the way up the mountain to above the cloud levels near (2,000ft). The views are wide and wonderful at every property and every residence.

If you have never seen the view from this street, I highly recommend that you take a trip and see. If you want to view the coast line from inside a home that is for sale, come up when there is an open house or make an appointment with me.

To go inside any high end Malibu home you will need to be prepared to show your ability to buy with financial records and proof of a down payment or full cash, as the owners of these private and secluded homes do not allow just any Jane or Joe Smo to walk around their home.
