The past month we've had high river, Intracoastal and ocean water levels from off shore storms. This has affected beach erosion, turtle nests, docks, etc. I've not seen street closures due to flooding such as A1A in Ft Lauderdale. During tropical storms and hurricanes certain bridges are locked down for safety. During the 2004-2005 hurricanes local flooding was primarily caused by clogged street drains. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) offers low cost flood insurance. This is separate and much lower than wind insurance policies. Palm Beach County Emergency Management works with NOAA and FEMA and has state-of-the-art flood and storm hazard notification systems.
