No the IRS will not force you out of your home immediately. However, the IRS can do the following:

They can garnish your income
They can place a lien on your home
They can foreclose on your home
If retired, they can reduce your Social Security income
They can seize your bank account

If you owe the IRS money, time to pay up.

There are a number of good areas as mentioned by the folks below but it would help to understand what price range you are looking for and how much space do you need so that you are not on top of one another. There are some wonderful communities in all price ranges so to help you narrow your search, you will want to answer those questions first.

Additionally, if you are looking for separate living quarters for your mother in law, that will further limit the areas that you will want to consider looking. There are many new housing communities but few of them will have separate quarters. If you can all be under the same roof, then that will increase your options.
