This is something you need to talk to a professional about. For such a specific structural renovation, you'll want to get quotes and find a licensed contractor. Then they can answer your questions directly. This isn't a project I would recommend attempting alone. ... more

Robin...that's a very specific question for a very specific area. Your best bet is to find a LOCAL agent that specializes in THAT neighborhood and ask them. Ellicott City doesn't have a lot of "spare" acreage, so I'm GUESSING a double lot would be of some value, but a local specialist can likely tell you HOW MUCH that double lot will add to a specific property. Best of luck... ... more

Hi Phil,

There is a mix of FHA purchases and conventional. Some of the conventional purchases are less than the 20% you noted above on the Hill.

Depends on the rules of the condo or coop association, but most buildings provide snow removal and it's paid by the condo fee.

Is there a specific building you're asking about?

Hi Bob,

Because you asked about apartments and condos, I'm guessing you are looking to rent, rather than buy.

So, in a 10 block radius of the State Department, only going as far south as Constitution, because Southwest DC is not feasibly walkable, I only found 6 properties under $3,000/month.
- $1500 for a 370 sq. ft. studio
- $1600 for a 434 sq. ft. studio
- $1995 for a 490 sq. ft. studio
- $2750 for a 735 sq. ft. 1BR
- $2780 for an unknown size studio, but includes garage parking
- $2941 for an unknown size 1BR, but includes garage parking

The last two are located at The Avenue, which is on I Street across the street from Foggy Bottom Metro and I have a client who just moved in there who also works at the State Department. If you'd like to view any of these properties, I'd be happy to drive you around to view them.

Hi Homesick:
Sounds like you are aching to come back to the DC area or perhaps leave the suburbs of Washington to get back to the air of city life. As some of the reviews have stated NW is a broad area but more importantly what are you searching for in a condo? Number of bedrooms/bathrooms, renovated, garage parking and any building amenities that are must have's. There is a lot available in DC and if you have been away for a while you might not even recognize old stumping grounds. If you want a more concise review of a particular area inbox me--I am more than happy to help!

All the Best!
