In my experience; Inspectors look for obvious things, plugs and switches not working, doors that won't close, sunporches converted to bedrooms, garage conversions, poor workmanship, etc.
An updated kitchen or bathroom does not usually get noticed.
"don't ask-don't tell" is probably the way to go.
The town probably won't have a way of knowing.
The way the towns find out about remodeling w/o permit, is that a Dumpster and a Trailer is parked out front for three weeks.
Don't be so paranoid; BIG BROTHER has better things to watch over.
