Be warned, Seldovia will steal your heart!

I could stop there - because that is the most important thing, because it is all about the heart, and "knowing" that you have found your piece of paradise in Alaska - but I'll expand a bit!!! :)

Surrounded by mountains, giant spruce trees, abundant wildlife and the gorgeous Kachemak Bay - we live in a postcard! Many folks know that they want to move here within two minutes of arrival!

Our family moved from Fairbanks about 13 years ago, and never looked back! We have raised our children, built a life and multiple businesses, and absolutely love the authentic Alaska feel of this community. Everyone knows your name, waitresses know what you like to order and there is rarely a line at the post office or grocery store. You can often walk the beach alone - or hike the trails without running into a soul!

Although Seldovia is off the road system, we're a first class city with water, sewer, power, high speed internet, grocery store, post office, multiple restaurants, gift stores, garden nurseries, and a K-12 school with a fantastic pool and shop! So - you have the tranquility of being a gorgeous remote destination - with all the luxuries of being connected to services and supported by great infrastructure!

Seldovia is an 11 minute flight from Homer (about $120 rt) and about an hour by boat (about $80 rt) on 3 passenger boats that travel to and from Homer. Seldovia is the only city on the south side of Kachemak Bay that is connected by the Alaska Marine Highway System (ferry ride is $66 rt adult passenger, about $150 rt - car and driver up to 19 foot truck), allowing us to bring vehicles, RVs, and make it across on a rough sea day! There are also DIRECT flights from Anchorage to Seldovia with Alaska Air Taxi! You can find all this (and more!) information on!

Seldovia is an active community with a Chamber of Commerce, Public Library, Arts Council (many concerts throughout the year) the Sea Otter Community Center and Seldovia Village Tribe with programing for adults and children. We have a volunteer fire and EMS department, police chief and two clinics that serve our community!

Though small, we have a lot to offer those who live here year-round! We don't have malls, a theater or bowling alley - most of the entertainment is of the outdoors kind: fishing, hiking, kayaking, beach combing, berry picking, walking and visiting with friends! We have hiking & kayaking, sea cycling and charter fishing operations for salmon, cod and the most delicious... halibut!

You should check out for more information on our community, and please - give me a call if I can answer any questions in regards to life in Seldovia! Seldovia is a lifestyle, and for our family - it continues to be a phenomenal life! Consider yourself warned - if you come here - prepare to be enchanted!

Hi Henry,
If the property is bank owned or sometime private owned and vacant during the winter. They might have used a winterization company to service the house to prevent freeze ups. Which if that has been done the tank lid is normally left off and placed to the side somewhere.
So the lid may be a mute point.
I would suggest that you visit the property and decide if you want to purchase it or not.
If you decide to purchase I would suggest you have a home inspector check out the house for defects.
Any defects that you did not care for and you wished were fixed you could then ask for those repairs to be done via a amendment form.
