Read what parents are saying about Nokesville Elementary SchoolIt was fine until Dr. Jacks took over and now it's gone completely downhill. 50% of teachers went to other schools at the end of his first year and I pulled my kid out to homeschool. He's arrogant and controlling and talks about the parents behind their backs. He's also unfortunately really bad at logistics, and leaves teachers without any guidelines at all so no one knows how they are supposed to handle any problems or complications. Running a K-8 is really logistically complicated because you essentially have two separate schools in one building and he's utter rubbish at it. I would highly recommend going elsewhere if possible!
Posted by a parent on 8/20/2022When we first found out our child was going to Nokesville (the old school before the new k-8 was built) I have to admit we were a little sad. There were shiny new schools around and I was a little bummed to be going to the older school. You definitely can't judge a book by it's cover. We started hearing about the great Nokesville school Community. It is rare these days to have a small school atmosphere. I really can't describe it but I could see why people we were wanting to transfer in. I was able to volunteer anytime I wanted and was always welcomed in. Everyone knew everyone. Now that we have the "shiny new school" (K-8 grade) that continues even though we are a bigger school. It is a very neat concept of having the kids together up to middle school. I feel the kids are getting a lot more attention and the teachers there truly love their jobs. Students can see their elementary school teachers throughout middle school so that influence carries on. Not that they are "in a bubble" but it does seem they are learning to be very respectful and getting more quality attention than they might in larger schools. Nokesville has always had a great reputation of being a quality school! Ask around! We may be a "rural" school and not a big city school but that has been to our benefit.
Posted by a parent on 8/6/2015The Nokesville School (K-8) is the best! The teachers are great and the school has very high test scores. Almost all the students that went to the now closed elementary came back (from Marsteller) for the 6-8 grades. We feel very lucky to be at this well-respected school. The teachers are very caring and the school has a safe and positive learning environment. My children love it here and many families are trying to move into the Nokesville area so their children can also go to this amazing school. We are so lucky!
Posted by a parent on 7/31/2015If we weren't moving out of state, I would love to have all my girls attend Nokesville Elementary. I can't explain how sad I am to leave this awesome school because I don't know if I will ever find a gem like this anywhere. From the principal down to the students, each person genuinely loves being there and assists one another, instead of leaving them behind or in the dark. Even though they are expanding to include 8th grade, it still has a small school feel where every teacher, student and parent knows each other. In fact, I'm glad they made the K-8, so we can maintain the children's innocence in Nokesville instead of sending them to the problematic Bristow Middle School. If you have an opportunity to pick this school, I highly recommend it! You will be very happy you did.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children have been at this school for four years. I have experienced all grades, K through 5. Although I’d recommend this school, there are some major caveats to be aware of. The test scores at this school are heavily biased- not only do they have a month of review homework prior to the standardized test, but they are now requiring the homework, removing recess from children who do not complete their required weekly homework. I followed up with administration and they stood up for this bizarre requirement. Otherwise the school works well, but the populace is quite affluent, and therefore their activities and plans for school events are biased towards expecting a two parent household with a stay at home mom. Children are not allowed at back to school events, with no child care provided. Annual field trips cost between $25 and $60 per child, mindblowingly higher than any other school I’ve experienced. The gifted program is simply awful. My children were bored and I wasn’t impressed with the main teacher. Her assistant was well liked by my kids though.Parent Review2y ago
