Read what parents are saying about Hidenwood Elementary School1 Star , 2 at best. The 5th grade classes are are total chaos.(Not much the teacher can do) 2024 , Hidenwood Elementary is not representative of the area. I'm not sure where these kids are bused in from..The Hidenwood neighborhood I'm at is nothing like the school demographics, hence, the school has been chaos since I was there 2008 until 2024.
Posted by a community member on 2/17/2024I have 2 children in the school right now. My youngest is average, she does not have any significant learning issues. However, my oldest has has been struggling with reading since Kindergarten, now in 3rd. I spent 2 years in meeting every few months trying to get them to test her. They refused. They just kept saying that I was failing as a parent and that she just needed to practice more. She was excelling in every other subject, to the point of being above grade level in some. The Vice Principal at one of those meetings, once again, told me that I was failing as a parent and she just needed more practice and the solution to her falling behind in reading would be to hold her back a year and not do any testing (I refused to hold her back because she was at grade level or higher on all her other subjects so holding her back would create boredom and a new host of problems because of it). She also, told me that I needed to be my child's advocate (she obviously wasn't going to based on her actions) and that she was not going to do anything to help her besides call me a bad mother, tell me she "just needs to be submerged in reading". she basically wanted me to mentally exhaust my child (and me) over reading. We scheduled the next meeting at the end of that meeting, the Vice Principal made the appointment in front of me and directly handed me the reminder letter. I went to the school on the day and time on the reminder, that the Vice Principal gave me, just be told that I was not on the schedule and I should not be there. They would not look at the reminder letter I had in hand and told me I needed to leave. I had to go to the School Board and have them call for me to be able to have that meeting. The next meeting after that, I would not allow the Vice Principal in the meeting (or any meeting thereafter) and I finally got the approval needed to get the testing done. But they still would not help her because her IQ tests results were too high (high end of average), even though she met the criteria on all the rest of the issues.

Posted by a parent on 9/6/2018My daughter started at Hidenwood this year (2015). So far, her teacher has been amazing and the staff is very welcoming. On the contrary, when speaking to the principal regarding an issue with my child, she did not portray interpersonal skills. In fact, her tone was somewhat aggressive, she attempted to be argumentative and was overall unprofessional.
Posted by a parent on 9/14/2016I love this school . My son is in the third grade and I've had nothing but good experiences. The teachers are involved the principal as well. They work with the kids and they are truly committed to helping them excel in learning. His teachers make sure that I'm aware of everything that goes on with him and they go above and beyond and it's truly appreciated. I would definitely recommend this school.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI regret ever sending my son to this “school.” What I thought was normal separation anxiety was actually genuine fear that my son experienced going to daycare each day. My son’s “teacher” was very unpleasant and seemed bothered by any of my questions or concerns. I never trusted that my son’s daily report was filled out correctly and he had constant issues with diaper rashes (he likely wasn’t changed often). I arrived to pickup my son early one day and noticed him outside on the playground. I decided to observe him for a bit before going inside and was horrified to see him bullied by another, clearly older child with no intervention from staff. They weren’t even supervising the children; they were too busy on their phones! I couldn’t have removed my son soon enough. He’s since started a different, much better daycare and the change in his behavior is astounding. I wish I could take back the months my son spent here; I feel so sorry for the emotional toll it took on him. I’ve since learned that other children have been physically harmed while attending this daycare, and I just can’t imagine what my son experienced behind closed doors. Staff members have shared pictures of moldy food in the refrigerator and described issues with roaches and fire hazards. I was also extremely disheartened to see how depressing the meals are that they serve these poor children; inmates are eating better. Overall, I can’t in good conscience recommend any parent send their children here. I implore you to please find literally any other place to keep your babies safe and free from harm.Parent Review1y ago - Denbigh Baptist Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGood school with great values however ,the amount of homework/study material is too much. My middle schooler is overwhelmed and stressed. There’s pretty much homework on every subject every day. If there is a science test the next day, my child still has homework in all the other subjects which take most of the “90 minute “ homework window. My kid is mentally exhausted and she can’t even decompress during the weekend because she’s stressed about all the homework/ study due next Monday.Parent Review1y ago - Hampton Roads International Montessori School
