Read what parents are saying about Dr. Charles R. Drew ElementaryFacilities are nice, some teachers great but many not experienced enough. Lack of consistency in communication, lack of holistic approach in assessing kids performance, and poor communication with parents on kids performance. Lack of use seesaw application. School seems to have improved but still has a long way to go. Need more TAs , perhaps better pay and incentives to recruit better experienced teachers, and administrators- or better pay and performance based incentives.
Posted by a parent on 3/27/2022Drew has completely transformed, and reviews from before 2020 no longer apply. All children get to use the "Dragon Den" STEAM center to learn coding, even in kindergarden! The teachers are very experienced, and the small class sizes are wonderful. It remains to be seen how the test scores shake out post-pandemic, but now that the montessori program has gone and the school boundaries have been adjusted, Drew is a fantastic neighborhood school with wonderful teachers and great leadership.
Posted by a parent on 10/12/2021Drew is undergoing a big transformation this year. Previously there were two programs housed in the same building. There was a significant boundary change among south Arlington schools that just went into effect, and this year is the first time the school is one united community. There is a fantastic principal, small class sizes, and wonderful teachers. Our 2 sons love going to school everyday! I can't speak to the reviews from years ago, but there is a new energy at Drew that is awesome.
Posted by a parent on 10/15/2019My children have been at Drew for 6 years, in the Montessori program. We have had a very good experience - they have learned the necessary grade material (as measured by the standardized test), but more importantly, have developed a strong love of learning and sense of community and responsibility. I'm not sure what the negative reviews are based on, but I would caution that any review that is more than 1-2 years old is out of date, due to leadership changes at the school.
Posted by a parent on 10/7/2017I have nieces and nephews that have attended 1 of several of Arlington County elementary schools. Drew by far is the worst. If you didn't know any better, you would not think it was in the same county school system. The approach that the teachers and staff have with the students is very dismissive and demeaning. It feels as if they stereotype and lump all the kids because they assume that just because you may come from a low income family you are unable to listen and learn. I could go on and on. I wish there were some way to get them into another school.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved to this neighborhood specifically to attend Charles Barrett and we couldn't be happier about it. CBES is such a special school. The teachers go out of their way to communicate with parents and the kids feel supported and cared for. The integration of the arts makes learning fun and exciting. Also, having an after school program in the adjacent Rec Center is a lifesaver.Parent Review1y ago - Randolph Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy family and I had the most awful experience at Oak Ridge Elementary. Though we left a little over a year ago: I experienced constant conflicts with the staff, there were multiple teacher changes during the year, most of whom English was not their primary language. And, now that I’m attending a good public school in another district, my child was almost required to be held back a grade due to a serious lack of skills and inability to perform at appropriate grade level. There is nothing positive that I have to say about the school, I would recommend that if you’re in this district that you seek private education because your student will be left behind if they are forced to go to this school.Parent Review3mo ago - Hoffman-Boston Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to this elementary school 5 years ago, my experience there was horrible the staff had no idea how to deal with bullying and as of now the same principal is still there. When i went to the counselor everyday the staff did not care. I had my 4th grade teacher throw away my food because "it smelt bad" which was what i was gonna eat, this teacher still works at the school. I had told teachers about my bullying experience yet the teachers agreed with the other side and the principal said "She's getting out of hand" this is really upsetting to hear as a 4th grader. The principal had at least 10 years of experience of working at the school at the time which tells me she "knows how to work with children" Please if you see a parents review do not listen as I was a child at this school and some children do not want to speak out and tell they're parents active problems.Parent Review1y ago - St Rita School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is the third year our family has had children at St. Rita's and we love it. My kids have had a great experience there and are thriving in all areas of development. I credit their WONDERFUL teachers the most for that. I love that the kids are exposed to classical stories and literature at a young age and I love that they are being challenged in a nurturing environment. It's a great little school and wonderful community to be a part of.Parent Review5mo ago
