Read what parents are saying about St. John's Middle SchoolSt. John's is one of the best schools in the country. It's test scores, application stats, college placement, and well-known alumni all speak for themselves. But beyond the School's numbers and reputation, there is an amazing environment that nurtures kids but also propels them to perform their best. The School often talks about "every child being known and loved." As an alumnus and now as a parent of two students, I really do believe that the School lives that principle on a daily basis. It is certainly not for everyone, of course. No place is. But if a child is academically talented and driven, and if the child can thrive in an environment where every other kid is also academically talented and driven, there is no better place in Houston.
Posted by a parent on 10/31/2022I am a student that is currently attending St. John's. Before that, went to West U high was an atrocious school. One of the greatest things about St. John's is that there is more individual attention to the students as compared to West U, which didn't focus on you at all. St. John's has a great education system that focuses less on grades and more on personal improvement. One complaint I do have against it is the fact that St. John's lower school where you attend and are guaranteed a spot in the upper school is full of not bright, rich kids which are only let in the lower school because their parents have good business connections. Overall I like St. John's a lot and I can confidently say that choosing to go to St. John's was one of the best decisions of my life!
Posted by a student on 11/5/2017St Johns helps students to become better academically, physically, and socially through well trained professionals like Mr. Ventura. This man has helped me through a rough year of math and given me life skills and advice that will help me in the future.
Posted by a student on 2/2/2017St John's is an amazing school. The Arts and Athletics programs are amazing. The teachers love to learn the way that the kids learn and to throw in a joke or two. All in all, St Johns is the best in Houston.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI truly believe Poe was a good school at one point. My parents and sister have lived in this neighborhood for over 25 years and a lot has changed. And if you have a child with any type of learning difference, please run; and, make sure that your future school can provide interventions.Parent Review3mo ago - River Oaks Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSt. Stephen's is a hidden gem within the sea of learning environments in Houston. It is holistic, child-centered, and eager in its growth goals. Always learning, the teachers are phenomenal. They will soon feel like family. Children are deeply loved here, and they thrive as a result. The education is rooted in Episcopalian values (one being - all are welcome), while living within an unwavering commitment to Montessori pedagogy. On a spiritual level, all 3 of our children are developing a strong sense of empathy, inclusivity, tolerance, and loving kindness. On an academic level, all 3 of our children are challenged appropriately in an environment that encourages curiosity and fosters a love for learning. St. Stephen's is a one-of-a-kind school, truly a place that all children deserve.Parent Review2mo ago - River Oaks Baptist School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love ROBS! Our family has moved around a bit for career purposes. ROBS is the third private Christian school we have attended. It is by far the best school experience yet! We have now been at the school for a couple years. The teachers have been such a blessing - they are extremely supportive, patient, and knowledgeable. The thorough and genuine communication they provide is always appreciated. The whole community has been very welcoming during our time at ROBS. My children also love the amount of special area classes offered and enjoy the after school programs. Our family could not be happier. Our children are truly excited to go to school each day.Parent Review3mo ago - Southampton Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved from New England in the summer of 2020. One my wife's new colleagues suggested SHMS in lieu of our ability to go tour schools due to Covid. We signed our 2 year old daughter up believing that we could move when everything opens up. She is now in Kindergarten at SMHS and our son, who wasn't born at the time, is now there as well and we couldn't be happier. caveat - Neither of our children are disabled or have major behavioral problems. Things of note - 1. We are paying almost $1000 less PER MONTH than we did in New England. Now that we've been here for a while, there are cheaper options for sure, but it felt like a MONSTER discount when we got here. 2. For additional fees, they offer soccer, ballet, spanish, and piano lessons during the school day. 3. There are schoolwide events - Fall festival, spring rodeo, Halloween, Christmas programs, etc. 4. They do offer kindergarten. It is small, 2-4 kids per older classroom, 3-4 classrooms, who combine together for "socials," field trips, and lessons together. 5. Siblings often cannot be in the same classroom so that they do not distract each other and can develop their own identity. 6. I have only seen 4 of the classrooms, 3 younger and 1 older, but every single teacher I have met cared a great deal for my children and helped them through potty training, teething, tantrums, learning to read, learning to do math, working out problems with other children, etc. 7. They have a FANTASTIC summer program which includes a pool! Older children get to swim, there are lifeguards. 8. One downside, other schools we have seen provide digital pictures or video of your child on a daily basis. This school does not have an app or (at the time of this review) even a website. It definitely feels like a word of mouth restaurant. 9. There are multiple parent-teacher conferences throughout the year. There aren't grades (before kindergarten) but they do give you written feedback on behavior, learning milestones, etc.Parent Review6mo ago
