We've been at TNVA for 2 years now. Both of our kids love it! They are both is Speech class and we have heard noticeable improvements for both of them. It has been our experience that the teachers care very much for their students, academically and emotionally. TNVA has school counselors available to help the kids, too (with Covid, it's been a weird few years and many kids need some extra support). The music teacher has her PhD--not going to find that in many brick-and-mortar schools. The history is taught using a more national curriculum and comes in great hardback books with colorful pictures and informative captions. ELA is taught with a combination of novels, journal-type books, and a collected-works hardback book--all of which go along with a workbook and online independent instruction. The students have live classes for all major subjects--ELA, Math, Science, and History. They are expected to attend live classes and to do independent work. Regarding those parents complaining that they have to spend hours with their children during the school day, TNVA and K12 has made it abundantly clear that this is a school expectation and indeed the LC (learning coach) signs papers acknowledging and agreeing that they will be there to support their students for a certain percentage of the day. (Virtual school isn't babysitting--parents/LCs are a responsible part of the student's education team.) Afterall, most young children are not developmentally ready to be at a level of personal responsibility where they will work on their own independently of support. Detailed hardback Learning Guides are provided to help parents/LCs help the students with ELA and math. Teachers are also very willing to help if parents have questions. TNVA has RTI and tutoring (free) to help struggling students. Regarding end-of-the-year-testing, it is state mandatory that students attending public schools (which TNVA is) attend these tests in person. Parents have to sign a form while enrolling acknowledging this testing rule and that they will ensure transportation to one of the many testing sites. Also, TNVA does a great job of challenging intellectually gifted students with bonus classes, meetings with gifted peers, and one-on-one meetings for challenge with the intellectually gifted teacher. TNVA has clubs of varying interests for students, offers support/community for parents/LCs, and encourages students. All of the novelette to say, TNVA is a fantastic school! Our kids beg to stay!

This is not a completely online school they do require in person testing even though the state doesn't require testing until the third grade. They did teach my child very much either. The classes are only 45 minutes long the rest is up to you. They expect you to spend seven hours working on busy work and not helping each child. If you don't do exactly what they want they give your child a zero and kick you out forever. They don't even give the children enough time to talk to the other kids and actually have friends.

This school is great, teachers are there is mg you need them. Law makers are mad k12 gives an extensive program intstead of just what they think is important (we were told we would not do history because the k12 history was so extensive but Tennessee only required certain facts only pertaining to tn, don't know about you but I would rather the learn the k12 and lack in what tn thinks is important). State testing does not tell you what a child knows because standards vary from state to state. The parents are right there with the kids so if the tests say the kids are below standards then maybe we should look closer to home because the school ad k12 give them every opportunity to succeed. The program is great, the school is there offering help and anything else needed. I have seen nothing but kids thrive in this environment.

My daughter has completed three years at TNVA. She has had nothing but good experiences. She struggles in Math and they have offered tutoring and support for her from the beginning. We had to pull her from brick and mortar schools due to bullying. She simply was not safe. We discovered when she left b&m schools that she also was not receiving the education that she should be. She receives a better education from TNVA then she did when she was in her prior school. Ironically, she receives a lot more teacher support from TNVA even though it is a virtual school. My daughter is going in to eighth grade this year and I don't know what we will do without TNVA next year.
