Read what parents are saying about Gerald G Huesken Middle SchoolThere's so many fights here it's ridiculous.I got called homophobic slurs multiple times and nothing was done about it.Like 90% of the students were kind of bigots. They changed my bus for a month and never changed it back even though (from what I've heard) they said they'd change it back. All the bus 18 kids that were from 25 want to be back on 25.I had to wake up really early (5:30 AM) and the bus route takes super long on 18 and we were pretty much always late.No phones are allowed at all.On my last day I was hugging my friends goodbye (I was sobbing my hood was soaked in tears) and some employee said "let's not hang around guys"Most of my teachers made me want to not learn. The amount of homework I got made me really stressed.Snacks ARE allowed in most classes. We also had teams, where basically a grade was split up into three groups, and the teams aren't really allowed to interact with each other at all.Overall this school kind of sucked.
Posted by a student on 10/27/2023I'm rather pleased with this school. Seventh grade was a rather difficult year, simply because I am not one for change, but I immediately got involved in the numerous extracurricular activities the school provided, such as school newspaper and school play. All the students were decent, and I made two friendships, which I have carried with me into high school. I am in the gifted program. In seventh grade, I had an excellent teacher; in eighth grade, my gifted teacher was, in my opinion, unqualified. That was really the only thing that marred my wonderful eighth grade experience. (Both gifted teachers left, though). This school's social studies teachers really stand out. My seventh grade geography teacher and eighth grade history teacher were both teachers who were not only warm and fun, but also mentors who worked not for salary but to educate us to be informed and responsible citizens of our nation and of our world, with strong opinions we would not be afraid to adhere to. The principal was fair and wanted what was best for the students.
Posted by a community member on 9/21/2012I went to this school and it was the worst experience of my life. The faculty teaches great, but when it comes to bullying and fight situations; the school acts as if it never even happens. It is a very rough school to attend.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall, I was hesitant about this school when I moved to this district. The first year I thought this school was pretty great. The second year my children were at Smoketown, some problems with other students started beginning. This is our third and LAST year at this school because the school cannot seem to focus on the students and help them. Bullying should not be such a problem, especially in an elementary school. I’ve had my kids tell me time and time again that the teachers do not pay enough attention or that they “fix” the problem by just telling them to ignore the bullies. Aside from the bullying problems, I have two children that are “advanced” but instead of them being given more challenging material to continue learning, they are made to help other children catch up. I think the homework policies are outrageous as well. I feel like the school just started going downhill a few years ago and It just hasn’t gotten any better since. Maybe it’s time for the school to look for a new principal, one that actually takes her job seriously, and doesn’t wear stilettos to work on a daily basis. I cannot wait to have my children in a new school next year!Parent Review6y ago - Fritz El School
