Teachers are personable, clear in their expectations and truly care that students learn and grow. The unique small class model allows for a friendly relaxed learning enviroment. The Beekman School and its Tutoring School provide the ability to shape a seamless curriculum including Advanced course options. Good communication from Admin & faculty as needed.
Posted by a parent on 6/7/2019Our teen took a math and English class during the summer school session. We were very impressed with the high quality of instruction. We got MORE thank our money’s worth. Our child enjoyed going to class and often told us that her teachers were amazing.
Posted by a parent on 11/9/2018The teaching staff and Headmaster Higgins at Beekman are beyond "fantastic". They made all the difference in my son's High School academic experience. My son was able to finally focus and succeed. The teachers at Beekman believed in him so that he could believe in himself; with their constant encouragement and smaller class sizes, Beekman was the right "fit" for him.
Posted by a community member on 6/26/2016This school is tiny, tiny, tiny, fewer than 100 kids total. There are great upsides to that: it's humane, nobody slips through the cracks, class sizes are tiny and the school is a very easy humane place to deal with. The headmaster pretty much does everything, from admissions to advice on what kids should take. When you call, he picks up the phone. There are downsides: almost no extra curriculars, no sports teams, no Parent Association, no fancy building, no full-time college placement office, no financial aid, not many course choices. On the other hand, if you take a course elsewhere in the city, at the SVA or FIT, that counts as a credit. The school will take almost any student, even mid year, with no testing. (A lot of U.N. families.) Some students there have had very interesting journeys, often with some bumps, up to that point. The discipline practices are clear and make sense. I have to say, while it was not my first or even fourth choice of school, I've been quite pleasantly surprised by how well it works. The teachers and kids seem to form real bonds. There's no bullying. It's a great antidote from the pressure cookers many of these kids come from. And while the Tutoring School, down in the basement, is very bare bones in terms of environs, it's useful if you have a student who struggles in a particular area or needs an accelerated track. All in all, the school is a bit like a Leatherman—very handy, especially if you're in a strange environment (say, a visiting foreigner) or a jam.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a concerned parent, I feel compelled to share my deep disappointment with Lyceum Kennedy School. From the moment we enrolled our child, it became abundantly clear that the school's claims of providing an enriching educational experience were nothing more than empty promises.Parent Review10mo ago - The Family School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNIGHTMARE and BEWARE of law suit. We had the worst experience sending out kid at St.Albans. We decide to pull our child out of this school after one month and they hit us with full one year tuition. We found out they also did the same thing to 5 other families like us. We received a court papers and we had to get a lawyer as well. We end up settling outside of the court but it was a nightmare. The principle and senior preacher are horrible people. Do not send join kids to this horrible school.Parent Review2y ago - The Montessori School of New York - Manhattan

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe new school building is a pleasant departure from the typically older school buildings in NYC. A standout feature of the school is its early "robotics" club, hosting a club for FRC entry (First Robotics Competition). This program exposes children to STEM fields from an early age, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. The school's approach to homework, starting from 1st grade, promotes accountability and develops good study habits. The teachers are young, passionate, and patient, fostering a positive learning environment. Their active engagement with parents via the ParentSquare web portal is commendable, keeping parents informed and involved in their children's education. The PTA is very active, consistently providing enriching programs for kids of all grades, including organizing engaging field trips. The quality of the After School program is good overall, with a wide spectrum offering and certain activities standing out as exceptional (Chess, FRC club, a few others)The school boasts a well-organized Chess program, which shows promise of becoming a strong contender in future NYC competitions. The principal's involvement and dedication are impressive - she appears industrious and driven. The school's focus on academic achievements without an overtly political agenda (DEI etc) is refreshing and stands in contrast with Schools like PS111, or even private schools like Grace School. The teachers at all levels are EXCELLENT - they are dedicated, supportive, and skillful at fostering a positive learning environment.Cons:Firstly, the after-school vendor's logistics staff appears to have a high turnover rate, which can cause inconsistency in the quality of services provided. However, it is noteworthy that this issue seems to be somewhat mitigated as of Spring 2023.Secondly, the school's elections and input to integrating the recent (non-English speaking) immigrant students could use a more strategic plan. I understand this was shoved on (all ??) NYC schools, and that it is good to provide opportunities to all children, yet the school needs to take steps to ensure this does not disrupt the learning pace for existing students. It would be beneficial to implement specialized programs or resources (Special needs ?) for these new students to help them catch up and integrate better. I predict all PS NYC schools that took in immigrant arrivals will have a huge drop in scores and quality in the next 2 years. Its a tough situationOther Review10mo ago - Montessori School of Ny
