Read what parents are saying about Nyc Lab Ms For Collaborative StudiesAlthough I was a bit skeptical at first -Robust, challenging, and advanced learning is what you’ll find at Lab MS. In volunteering for a few events when my child was in the 6th grade (current 7th grader) I’ve found that the staff and students go well beyond the freshman welcoming-phase and actually exercise a great deal of acceptance towards one another. Although math & science is considered the school’s as well as my son’s strong suit, it is within the Humanities- the history coursework and the teachers’ way of guiding the students to application to their daily lives- is another that shines through Lab MS. The guidance counselors and the entire student support team are truly there for their students, the Theatre/Drama class, the Parent Coordinator Ms. Marilyn is all what makes the learning at this school a gem. I’m hardly ever compelled to chime in on reviews unless there a place/person has been meaningful and I must say, pandemic and all, the overall experience at this school is what stood out tremendously in a positive way.
Posted by a parent on 5/28/2021The overall quality of the teaching is absolutely terrific, and they have stellar leadership setting the example from the top. Their school principal, Meg, is so invested in every student's success and her enthusiasm is contagious. My wife and I feel blessed our son is able to attend this wonderful place where his teachers are actively involved in not only making sure he does his work, but that he UNDERSTANDS it. The school is also in constant communication with us, the parents, to ensure that we are informed of what is happening in school, should our children be hesitant to do so themselves, i.e., slipping grades. It's very difficult for my wife and I to imagine a better educational experience for our son than that which we have ALL enjoyed with Lab Middle School. Further, while I've only singled out the stellar principal, I cannot emphasize enough how amazing they ENTIRE staff has been; an amazing and successful team effort.
Posted by a parent on 8/31/2018Overall, the quality of the teaching has been great. My son has been very happy at LAB and feels well-prepared for high school, which was a huge help during the arduous NYC high school application process.
Posted by a parent on 1/3/2018This is a great school with passionate teachers where students are tested for admission - having such a school is a tremendous asset to Manhattan residents seeking excellent education through the public school system. The students that get in are typically very bright and supported by families that encourage hard work and academic achievements. The teachers at Lab are excellent. In particular, two exceptional math teachers teach accelerated math and led the math team to win numerous competitions. The art program is fantastic with opportunities to study at the Whitney. The 6th grade science program is exceptional- I find it hard to believe that you can get a better science experience anywhere else, even through a private school. Challenging concepts are taught through creative experiments and labs that instill intellectual curiosity in students. There are some reviews on this site that focus on negative aspects of the administration but as a parent, I believe the main focus in evaluating a school should be on the teachers and the school’s track record of its students getting into NYC’s top testing high schools, and based on that, I would highly recommend NYC Lab Middle School.
Posted by a community member on 6/29/2016This school has gone downhill in recent years due to a weak/inexperienced administrator. Because she won't put her foot down, each teacher uses his/her own online system for school assignments/grades. Some don't use any online tools at all. But that means by the time you are done with three years, your child will have used Google drive, Google classroom, Jupiter Grades, Edmodo, Gmail and more. That means in 8th grade, for example, your child has to check in with four different systems each night to ensure that all homework is collected (and still not feel secure that he/she got it all because some teachers don't use any systems at all). Some teachers choose to post grades so you can track your child's progress, others do not. In addition, wait til you have a problem or concern with your child. You may be lucky to get one email response back from the school, but after that, communication shuts down. The Principal is Always Right. Go Away. That is the message you will receive. The administration only looks out for the kids that better its reputation. If your child falls below the fold, he/she will suffer at Lab.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm astounded by the level of education at this school. My son is in Kindergarten G&T and is already reading. He has light homework which he does independently. He participates in after-school activities M-F and loves every activity/instructor. I always enjoyed school growing up and I'm so glad that PS 11 is fostering the same excitement around learning for my son.Parent Review3mo ago - Guardian Angel School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been at Corlears for 5 years, starting with the 2s program and now in elementary. I have seen both my children flourish, emotionally and intellectually and we are very happy here.Children are taught to be curious and enthusiastic learners, who are constantly seeking knowledge and asking questions. My second grader devours books and solves math problems with her 4 year old sibling for fun. Graduates go on to their top choice schools. The teachers and administrators know every child well, and because of individualised attention, are able to meet children where they are at. Whenever I have had any concerns about my kids developmentally or behaviourally, the teachers were able to speak to that and address it. Overall, it’s a diverse warm and welcoming community. The board is open for anyone, and a lot of thought is given to creating a diverse board from a racial, socio-economic and experience perspective.Parent Review4mo ago - City Country School
