Read what parents are saying about The Clinton SchoolThe leadership at this school is painfully absent. The principal is non responsive. My son graduated last year and -- like another parent said -- I had to enroll an army of tutors to get him through. A few of his teachers were fine. But for the most part, the teachers don't really care about the challenges the students have and the principal completely ignores the needs of the kids. It's unbelievable how bad it's gotten. I have another kid in middle school and I absolutely won't send her to high school here. Do yourself a favor and don't bother considering this school. Unless your kid is perfect, i.e., can process a huge amount of work in a short period of time and adhere to every deadline WITHOUT help - maybe this is the school for you. BUT, if your kid is that good of student, there are far better schools to send them to!!
Posted by a parent on 1/31/2023Our experience at this school was a huge disappointment. During COVID, there were 100 kids in a class and the vast majority of students didn’t turn their cameras on. My daughter lost ground academically in high school and it was impossible to be in touch with most teachers, the vice principal, or the principal. I believe that experience was also indicative of how things are in normal years. There’s not much support and no opportunity for students to make their mark. Because it is a pretty new school, there is no real school culture — no history of clubs and activities that fosters excitement about being at the school.
Posted by a parent on 9/4/2021My son is finishing his 9th grade year at Clinton and I am thoroughly impressed with everything about this school. A very difficult pandemic year has been handled from beginning to end with thoughtfulness, care, and high spirits.
Posted by a parent on 5/19/2021Challenging school on so many levels. Parents are often the last to know about homework assignments and deadlines --for new middle schooler. Shifting and changing protocols seem to be the norm as they attempt to finetune and improve their systems. Woe to the parent who isn't paying close attention and misses an email. This school works for a highly motivated child, who loves being independent, is excellent at time management, exceeds in self-advocacy and requires little to no support. For an average child who is a pretty good student, I would steer clear. My remote learner is expected to organize her time two days per week with little/no class instruction just as if she were a college student.
Posted by a parent on 11/14/2020The middle school used to be amazing but now it is unrecognizable. The high school is terribly managed and it has horrendous impacts on the students’ mental health and stability.

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI chose this school for my child because of its reputation. Because of Covid, we had to rely mainly on online reviews for schools we were considering and I must say that some reviews of PS41 gave me pause but I chalked them up to disgruntled parents. It turns out that our experience was much like some of the negative reviews here, save the parent coordinator, who has been replaced by Thom Lee, an absolute gem who goes above and beyond. This school is very regimented and does not feel warm. The kindergarten curriculum is what the DOE first grade curriculum used to be, focusing mainly on academics, with some specialty classes like art and dance squeezed in between periods in a disjointed way. Mid-Fall, at an informal gathering with my child's teacher, when asked how the school year was going, she mentioned that the boys were "still very physical" as if their energy would suddenly dissipate because the school year was now underway. (They are going to want to run and play for years to come!) There was a lot of "sit down," "sit still, "1, 2, 3 eyes on me," extrinsic rewards like a "prize box" and stickers, and teacher-as-God energy. My child would have a good day when there was a sticker and feel down when the next day the target behavior didn't earn a sticker. Our kindergarten teacher called another child's mom to report that her daughter was "taking too long in the bathroom," and "picking the nail polish off her nails," (the day after Halloween) and recommended an evaluation from a neuropsych: Feedback about my child, and feedback about other children in the class which parents openly shared, was painfully negative and centered around whether they were "paying attention," and "listening," and was obsessively about reading and reading only - in kindergarten. There is not play-based, art-based learning nor is the whole child and his/her wonderful personal characteristics taken into account. This felt like an institution that whips children into shape prematurely and out of step with their developmental timeline. They might leave here with a strong rote memorization of facts and appetite for extrinsic rewards, but perhaps at the risk of their sense of self, confidence, executive function and ability to think for themselves. If your child thrives in structure, likes to memorize and might like teacher-led learning, this could be good for you. I would not recommend PS 41. Many independent schools offer wonderful financial aid - see what you can do!Parent Review1y ago - Grace Church School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have been a Grace parent for 3 years and I have had a wonderful experience at the school. I am most impressed by the faculty and staff - it is apparent how dedicated they are to their students and helping them learn, but it is also apparent that they love what they do. They are consistently warm, supportive, and responsive. Another strength of the school is its close-knit community feel. The parents and families of the students are eager to be involved, and the school provides a multitude of opportunities for them to volunteer, gather, and participate in their child's school experience. We have been so happy at Grace these past few years and recommend it highly!Parent Review4mo ago - City Country School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCIty & Country School was once a leader in progressive education 100 years ago, but they are not any longer. While their frame work of open ended materials, collaboration and student led inquiry is on point, their definition of acceptable child development is narrower than academically accepted guidelines. If your child falls anywhere outside this narrow perception of acceptable development, you will be targeted by the director of the lower school, and your experience will be cruel. Due to its pedagogy, history and reputation, the school attracts absolutely wonderful teachers, who work there at below average salaries. The school is suffering under poor leadership.Parent Review3y ago - New York Hebrew

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe PTA members at this school consistently come across as unpleasant. This treatment is particularly directed towards Asian women who are not proficient in the language. There are also Asian women among the members, but they share the same attitude. There seems to be a tendency to dislike people who are flashy yet struggle with language. Even when I made a donation, there wasn't a single word of gratitude.Parent Review1mo ago
