Read what parents are saying about Harvey Milk High SchoolMy son has severe ADHD and identifies as being gay. He was in Private $$$ Special Education from 4th till 10th grade. The support he gets at this PUBLIC school cannot even begin to compare. Each student is treated with RESPECT. If there is a problem between students, it is addressed immediately through mediation, where the students can talk it out. I have met the best staff and teachers at this school. They are there to support the whole family as well as the student. They will not give up on your child nor LABEL him/her. I am very thankful that I found this school, where my son gets supported and can be himself without sneers or bullying. This school deserves teaches the students compassion, volunteering in the community and gives them the tools they need to become successful, confident adults. If any school deserves an award, it is most definitely, The Harvey Milk High School.
Posted by a parent on 5/22/2016The school is very warm and supportive. Student body is very small, so teachers know almost every kid's name. It is very LGBTQ supportive, and gay-bashing is strictly forbidden. If you need protection from homo/transphobic students/faculty/administrators, this is the place. However, if you are a high-achieving student with honors/AP credits, you might not enjoy this school. Teachers are very skilled, but the school does not have enough teachers to serve those classes. Regular classes with kids way behind of works (and does not know how to conduct in classroom), that's what you are going to face. And they only offer basic, basic classes, so you do not have various choices. I'm not blaming students, since I understand how it is hard to keep up academically when bullied, but most students do not know how to behave in classes. You will get straight A's with spending only 10 or less minutes for hwk. Just to sum up, HMHS is a very safe school especially to LGBTQ. They are very sensitive to bullying issue, include teachers and principal. Academic life may be very depressing, but the school started a huge transition, so we will see what happens.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have been a Grace parent for 3 years and I have had a wonderful experience at the school. I am most impressed by the faculty and staff - it is apparent how dedicated they are to their students and helping them learn, but it is also apparent that they love what they do. They are consistently warm, supportive, and responsive. Another strength of the school is its close-knit community feel. The parents and families of the students are eager to be involved, and the school provides a multitude of opportunities for them to volunteer, gather, and participate in their child's school experience. We have been so happy at Grace these past few years and recommend it highly!Parent Review5mo ago - St George Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe 21/22 school year has been our first year at NAISNY and I could not be more happy. The curriculum is rigorous but extremely engaging. My child is learning and growing into a mindful citizen. The staff and educators are warm and caring all while maintaining a fun learning environment. We chose NAISNY after interviewing with progressive downtown schools and I quickly realized, while they are well-known and “prestigious” they aren’t very strong in the areas we think are important. I can’t help but compare the curriculum at NAISNY to other NYC (public and private) and I’m absolutely certain this is the best school for my child. The class sizes are small enough for the teachers to ensure every students grasps concepts and moves forward with the lesson plans. My only wish is that NAISNY would extend into high school.Parent Review2y ago
