Posted by a community member on 11/7/2017I left another charter network to come to Democracy Prep and I couldn't be more happy. They get the balance of joy and rigor right both for kids and adults.
Posted by a teacher on 11/29/2011My child is in the 6th grade, and I will agree the curriculm is very good. That's where it ends. I am all for discipline when it is appropriate, but why would you remove a child during regular scheduled class time to do a discipline assignment, where the student may miss 2-3 class periods of work. When you speak to administration, especially the founder instead of listening, being open and receptive to suggestions of concerned parents you are told "Well this school may not be the right fit for your child". I think the are missing the big picture, and are losing sight of the fact we are EDUCATING CHILDREN.

Posted by a parent on 10/31/2010This is my daughter's first year at DPCS as a 6th grader. Her grades are all 90's and 95's. She's doing great in her academics.I am so grateful for this school.!!!

They've been through about 3 principals in as many years but the current one is by far the worst! Absolutely incompetent. It seems like so many teachers leave and it's not surprising why. 5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school was once great, but Principal Jagarnath Ocasio has ruined it. It used to be a school where students were treated fairly and given an environment to learn. Now all the great teachers who were once there are gone and the school has very few teachers of color. Every year there are new teachers who are not invested in students. Students now bring weapons to school and test scores are the lowest in the city. Many parents and families have left because the principal is not welcoming to parents or the community.
