Farragut Middle School

I am new here at this school, and I have been welcomed warmly by all of the teachers. This is an amazing school! All schools should be this way. Kind, opening, supportive.

I am the parent of a rising 7th grader. I had very low expectations for what his experience was going to be as the school is widely viewed as the week link in the Hastings educational system. Even though my bar was set very low I still find myself surprised at the how uninspired teaching is, how poor data collection is and how the majority of teachers seem completely disinterested. This culture was bred by the previous principal who left at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. I think the new principal is great and I'm sure the school will see improvement, but I think it's going to take considerable amount of time to change the culture. If I was looking for a home and had a middle school age child, I would look at our neighboring towns.

Personally as part of the LGBTQ+, and winner of the Race Matters award, I have always tried to find equality everywhere. Yes it’s a 50% of equality in this school. This school is made up of a lot of white students, and it hurts if you aren’t. It comes to a point that I sometimes wish a little to have been born white. I wish that in the future that wouldn’t be the problem

Teacher seem jaded and are there simply for their inflated paychecks. They don’t seems to really care about their students. It’s a shame cause Hillside was so wonderful and the staff seemed to really care about the students there.

It's an amazing school where children are involved in all kind of activities, sports, orchestra, chorus, band. LA teacher is the best and I wish they were more teachers like her. We come from Europe and we can see a huge difference how Math is taught here. The level is so low , but it's not the school fault it's the system! They are doing in 6th grade what normally you do in 4th grade in Europe. School is very good, the standards are high and I would recommend it.
