Fairport Senior High School

Fairport is a true community in which the High School prepares its students to enter into college extremely well prepared. The staff is not only concerned about academia, but also concerned about the mental and emotional health of the student body, always putting the students first. I graduated from FHS and I can attest that FHS shaped who I am today. I was not in any sports, but highly involved in the extra curricular activities offered such as yearbook. The math department is outstanding and the teachers are overwhelmingly supportive.

The post below from 2004 says it all and little has changed in 10 years. Surrounding school districts such as Pittsford, Brighton, HFL and others are excellent. Fairport continues to muddle along. The Fairport Central School District has excellent elementary and middle schools with strong math, music and foreign language programs. Good teachers are motivated by generous compensation packages and consistent community support. However, the High School is seriously and structurally flawed. Nearly 2,000 pupils from 10-12 are in one modern but prison like facility which is so large that crowd control is the primary job for most staff. High Schoolers are effectivly anonymous inmates unless they are members of varsity sports teams which receive considerably more emphasis and support than academic performance and personal growth. Many teachers simply do not know their students. Private university placement is not impressive in relation to graduate numbers. Neighboring districts such as Pittsford and Brighton enjoy national recognition for keeping school size, academic performance and sports in proportion. Other good alternatives are the local Catholic High Schools.
