Read what parents are saying about Mark Twain is 239 for the Gifted and TalentedWould not recommend sending your child here unless you are okay with them getting beat by an entire mob of students on the bus. Definitely not the gifted and talented here
Posted by a community member on 2/26/2024Mark Twain IS239 is not really the best school, in my opinion. I was being harassed by other students and the teachers did absolutely nothing. Also, there is a clear bias between IEP students and non-IEP students. My friend who has an IEP and had a 95 average for seventh grade was placed in core math (which doesn’t give algebra 1 credit), yet those who didn’t have an IEP and had lower averages were placed. The teachers would suspend you over the most ridiculous of rumors and the deans favor popular students the most. My history teacher for eighth grade told me she had “too many students” and wouldn’t grade my work when i submitted two late assignments. Teachers are super strict with students, and have major favoritism, and unless you don’t make yourself known and in a clique, you’re going to hate it here. My science teacher in sixth grade promoted a kid who cheated and always brought in late work to science honors in seventh, yet she didn’t do the same for me. A lot of people are fake here, but there are good people here too. This school isn’t all bad, though. I received Living environment and language credit from this school so i’m accelerated in those courses in high school. I also met my best friend here who i still talk to today and is the most supportive person ik. My talent teacher retired when it was the end of seventh grade for me and I truly loved her like one of my own family members, I will never forget her and how kind she was towards me when I was suffering and in my darkest times. My counselor was nice but didn’t really help me with issues. If you want to send your kid here, go ahead but don’t expect them to be completely happy with your decision.
Posted by a community member on 3/15/2022I just recently started 8th grade at Mark Twain and so far, it has been a wonderful experience! Almost all of my teachers were very helpful whenever i had questions. Many of them offer tutoring at lunch if you have further questions. In fact, I built up quite a relationship with a lot of my old teachers and still visit them when i can. The students here are also really nice. Usually, your main friend group builds within your own talent, but you still have many opportunities to talk to the other kids from the school.Overall, this school is absolutely incredible and i would absolutely recommend it to any parents or students considering it.
Posted by a student on 10/9/2017It was an extreme trade by for my child attending at this school, the teachers are very rude, nasty and have no respect many students work hard but yet most teachers are not appreciating their efforts and are not helping them which leads them to discouragement and then they are not having a good time with gardes
Posted by a parent on 7/21/2017Mark Twain is a wonderful junior high school. There is so much diversity that when you combine the different backgrounds and cultures of the students you get amazing results!

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son attended Block from the time he was two years old, till the time he was 4. I have nothing but a pleasant experience the whole time. My son was placed in a 8 to 1 ratio with a para. I still keep in contact with both teachers. Upper management can use a little help as far as organization, and communication.
