Read what parents are saying about Ps 72 Dr William DorneyHorrible. It is a big mistake that I sent my kid to this school. I regretted a lot.

Posted by a parent on 8/14/2022I feel that the positive reviews here must be fake, because this is not the school you want your child going to. The teachers try, but the leadership is horrible and they have been retaining a large number of students in order to have those children raise the scores for the school to get it off the bad schools list. When is the last time you heard of five children being retained per class? The principal will not meet with parents who have concerns. They will accuse your child of lying when they are being physically bullied. I wouldn't send a dog to this school. It's a shame bc there are some nice teachers and some nice kids there and they deserve better. But of course, out of control kids rule the class- everybody has to suffer bc of one or two kids who should not be in a normal classroom setting. But those kids get away with it bc of special needs, while everyone else suffers. I withdrew my child after two teachers had quit her class by November, and these children had no teacher. The principal never met with the parents, never sent home a letter- nothing. Disgraceful.
Posted by a parent on 11/20/2017My son is in the G&T program at PS 72 which started last year. We do not live in this neighborhood so I drive my son to school every morning. I must say that Mrs. Colon genuinely cares for all of her students. She gives out her personal mobile number to the parents in case they need to reach her. She listens to the parents concerns and takes action. I can only speak for the G&T class, but his first year has been remarkable. The children in the class finished the school year at 1st -2nd grade reading level while in kindergarten. The children where learning things beyond their years (i.e. multiplication, addition, subtraction, writing journals, STEM projects etc.). Is the school perfect? No. There is no such thing as perfection. Once parents understand that there are pros and cons to everything, then you can pick your battles. The teacher is amazing. She comes up with many creative activities to keep the children on their toes. The kids love going to school and look forward to learning something new each day. The children have homework every day which includes writing, math and reading. In addition, they have STEM projects throughout the year. I am happy to have made the decision to send my son to the G&T program at PS 72.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have enjoyed our experience with Villa to date. I have 3 children in the school and I am not a member of a parent clique there. It has not impacted my children’s experience and it is not at all limited to Villa. My children previously attended public school and there were cliques there too. At least at Villa my kids get small class sizes, individual attention, and quality education. The school is also slowly ramping back up alot of its pre Covid activities, which are really nice. There are somethings about it that are not my favorite but at the end of the day there will be things like that at every school. I can say with certainty that the math program is stronger than what your child would receive at public schools in the area. It is also a great place for kids who want a more structured environment - meaning less tolerance for disruptive kids in the classroom. My children would actually appreciate more discipline in the classroom so it isn’t draconian in its discipline it just has rules. Some may be old fashioned but nothing so offensive I believe it will scar my children or indoctrinate them. At the end of the day my kids like it much better than the public school they were at and are learning and challenged in the process.Parent Review1y ago - St Frances De Chantal School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have had 2 children graduate top of their class from this amazing school. I currently have a 3rd grade student who is so artistic and gifted and his talents are encouraged . The staff always go above and beyond for the students and families. Communication is on point and the administration is outstanding.Parent Review8mo ago
