This school has the heart! With the teachers and staff who have the strongest backbones and the biggest heart. I have witnessed some of our most challenging years as educators not only in our school community but in this country at large. Yet, we are still standing and thriving amidst this pandemic. Every single person from the principal to the lunch lady, from the teachers to the janitors want to see every single student succeed. The dedication this staff puts in every single day to show up for each student touches my heart on a daily basis. Everyone here is a true hero. The staff aren't just here for the jobs - they care for every student, as if they were their own child. P.S. 246 has really pioneered the importance of Social Emotional learning, especially during the height of the 2020 pandemic - when students, families and staff needed it the most. Everyday this school is looking to learn new ways of providing quality education and guiding resources for students and families to succeed. If you walk through the school doors, our art teacher painted the great words of R.B. Fuller, “There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly.” That is how we treat each person that walk through these doors. Everyone has so much unlocked potential, and we are here to stay and nurture the seeds of knowledge and watch everyone grow to their true and highest selves.

My boys just started the school year here and everything has been unpleasant. Everyone is rude and hardly pay attention to you when you are trying to ask questions of trying to get information. My boys are in kindergarten and the first day of school they didn't get lunch. I couldn't believe this! I went to speak to whom ever was in charge of the lunchroom and no one could give me a straight answer. But, that wasn't the worst part. The three people I spoke with refusely denied that it occurred. They seemed outraged and bothered with me even suggesting that. My sons were in tears because they were so hungry. This is a new school, new people. They didn't know they had to form a line to get lunch. In their preschool they would sit in the table and the food would be served to them. So they just sat there. The infuriating thing about this all is that no one noticed this occurrence. Then I find out that the lunchroom is under staffed. So instead of apologizing to my sons and me they made us feel as we were making this up. No one apologized to us! Only my kids teachers....when this wasn't even their fault. The drop off is a circus. All the parents complain about this. They have a different entrance almost everyday. One of my sons was crying today "They always change this here. I'm scared". This is why I decided to write this review. They get rushed in and pushed in because "we are going to be late". The kids are all scared and confused mine included. It's just very chaotic for the children. How are they suppose to feel secure when they don't have routines set up for them. Also, parents can't come into the school. I have yet to see my kids classrooms. Which makes me uneasy. Why don't they want parents to come into the school? What is it they don't want us to see? They raise their voices at you if you even cross the entrance. It's just very weird and I'm really concerned. If you are going to send your child here, don't! It's really shady.
