This is a clear example of a school that continues to get in its own way. Upper administration continues to deal from the bottom of the deck, paying themselves while skimming raises to teachers and staff. The school is run by one top official, not the principal, who resorts to outdated strategies which have led to a steady academic decline for years. High teacher turnover rate due to a lack of appreciation and support for staff is an ongoing predicament while the school's Board of Directors, CFO, and HR rubber-stamp each decision of the top administrator. Non-English speaking students are enrolled without certified Bilingual staff to assist them and teachers go for days without preps due to understaffing and full-time substitutes who call out regularly. Unfortunately, the list goes on. New Horizons needs "new" leadership at the top level that understands how to teach students with effective, current, up-to-date strategies and who will manage staff ethically in order to live up to its name. Until there is change at the very top and throughout, this would not be a recommended place to work or send a child for a quality education.

Can u identify the principal or vice principal? Outside of a link to the email address, these ladies are less than visible. Which speaks for what I experienced. I visited several times - both principal and vice nowhere to be found. Finally, there was a lady walking amongst the parents. No good morning, no hello, didn't even greet the students. Just walking around. I asked if this was the principal and one of the secretaries said yes. These kids don't even get a good morning, let alone the parents - still don't know what the vice principal looks like. Absent and rude principals. *2* HIPAA and Office traffic. The nurse's office is located within main office. I handed the secretary a health form and she went and placed it in a file in the hallway. Cabinet unlocked and accessible. Several sick students - I could hear every word - I can tell you the name of a 1st grader with sickle cell and a 3rd grader who didn't have his asthma pump to say the least. HIPAA is completely disregarded. That nurse's office should not be in the main office and those files should be under lock and key. *3* Traffic. I don't know if the absent principal lacks common sense or doesn't care. The traffic is horrendous. First - the cops have barricades on surrounding streets, no-thru traffic, however the parents have to go around the barricades to drop off their children and pick them up. There is no clear pick up or drop off system in place which causes chaos and confusion. No crossing guard, No organization. Kindergarten thru 4 grade 5 should be let out of the front entrance - and 6-8 possible the back entrance. NO PARKING should be allowed on either side of the street between 8 and 4 on school days and no parents allowed in the gym or to double park. Cones should be in place, kids should get out of the cars and keep moving. Its chaotic. I did see the absent principle standing outside observing - I guess that what she does, cause she surely doesn't speak and sets the tone for this school. Academically, there is a new curriculum so it will take time to measure. There are so many other distractions that take away from learning. I see bullying daily by parents and kids in the gym. Uniforms aren't enforced and I pick my son up at 3:20 essentially every day. He leaves his class at 3:10pm and begins to pack up at 3, so period "8" is a wasted period.

As a former teacher at this school I can honestly say this school is a disgrace to education. The teachers there are phenomenal and they deal with more than they should have to! It is a terrible place to work. It is stressful and the teachers are underpaid. Admin don’t help and there is a major discipline problem.
