Read what parents are saying about The Early College At Guilford CollegeGuilford Country is blessed with excellent school choices where students can encounter challenging work. Among these, ECG is perhaps suited to those kids who are coming out of 8th grade capable of college level work (as many smart kids are), but also capable of a prodigious velocity/volume of work without burning out or becoming unhappy. Some kids capable of understanding the advanced (for age) material would nevertheless find themselves unhappy at ECG simply because of the bandwidth required for multiple simultaneous accelerated classes, and parents considering ECG should take this into consideration. In the first two years, typical AP classes are semester-long, not full year-long, meaning that the pace is as fast as it will be at a university. Similarly, the high school classes (typically honors level when not AP) are traditional year-long classes taught at high pace in order to fit into single semesters. The result is to squeeze four years of work into two years. For example, in mathematics a student might take pre-calculus honors as a first semester freshman; AP statistics second semester that year; calculus AB as a first semester sophomore; and calculus BC as a second semester sophomore. No corners are cut, the material is just taught at a very fast pace - in every class. The final two years, the students are full time enrolled students at Guilford College, study under the professors of Guilford College, and have a wide range of courses of study available to choose from without the constraints of having to fulfill requirements a major. The rigorous course-load and small size of the school make for a close-knit academic community. The teachers are experienced in gifted education and know how to motivate and inspire the students. For the right child - one who is organized, self-sufficient, and most importantly likes to drink knowledge from a firehose and ask for more - ECG is a wonderful home for the high school years where they will find like-minded students and a curriculum they will love.N.B. - One of the areas ECG gets dinged in state and county assessments is in the category of "progress," or how much better the kids score this year compared to last year. However, it is something of a meaningless statistic at ECG because at the 99th percentile there is nowhere to improve to, as one cannot score into a higher percentile.
Posted by a parent on 1/29/2019My daughter presently attends this wonderful school. There is not enough praise for how the staff and teachers have encouraged her to work hard in both her academic classes and in her extra-curricular activities. The students work well together and there is a lot of class spirit. They have a lot of the typical high school activities like homecoming, prom, NHS, and a ton of clubs. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to work with the Freshmen and Sophomores as TA's. Yes, there is way more homework than a typical high school, but my daughter is completely prepared for college.
Posted by a parent on 2/21/2018This school hands down has the most knowledgeable and motivated students and teachers in the county. No debate. But I can't give this school a good review when they fail to help underclassmen have a balanced life and waste time being sticklers about rules they don't respect themselves (tardiness, language, late work, list goes on). They recognize that they are busy and make mistakes, but expect us to be perfect in the name of rigor. Why, then, do juniors tell us that they don't get 4 hours of sleep in college? Sophomore year isn't to prepare you for college, it's a dream world where teachers pretend that there aren't classes besides their own for students to contend with.
Posted by a student on 9/19/2017Excellent school. The new principal and the entire team are making great efforts to innovate.
Posted by a parent on 3/5/2017This school seems to be evolving from an Early College program that accepted only the most academically elite students in the Guilford County School system to one that is placing more priority on diversity. This means that some of the top students in the county will be rejected due to their race and gender despite having higher grades and academic capabilities. It is not clear whether Guilford College has imposed this new priority through their official plans or if Guilford County Schools made this decision. Right now, the school is still ranked highly based on reputation. For the right students, this program is a great opportunity, but if you have a student who doesn't manage his/her time well or doesn't have the fortitude to spend most of his/her waking hours writing and studying, do not consider skipping over this school a loss. There are other great high schools in Guilford County. No need for a student to demoralize him- or herself to get a solid college prep high school education. AP, IB courses and programming in the 'regular' and magnet high schools here are excellent too.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur kids love this school. It is inclusive, diverse and has an incredible community of teachers and staff. There are over 50 countries represented giving a dynamic in every room with languages from around the world. With a high population of students who have labels of disabilities, the intent of every class is inclusion and support to meet the needs of each child. It has taught our children empathy, grace and patience. It also means that teachers are more apt to teach to the student, their individual abilities, etc. whether needing additional support or giving extensions for child exceeding the baseline.Parent Review3y ago - Greensboro Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe couldn't be happier at Greensboro Montessori School. They way they have guided the families through the COVID-19 pandemic has been a source a comfort and stability for our elementary-aged children. The head of school provided monthly virtual meetings to keep the community informed, be as transparent as possible, and solicit feedback from families. The teachers went above and beyond to create in-person and remove learning opportunities for students and were available for conference calls and virtual meetings whenever necessary for the benefit of all students. While we have always been impressed by this school, the last year further solidified our choice of GMS for our family. We highly recommend.Parent Review2y ago - Caldwell Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCaldwell Academy is such a true gift to our family. The partnership of the staff with parents to teach and shepherd our children is like no other. We have been so pleased at how each teacher has truly cared for and valued our children. Not only are they supported academically but spiritually as well. Our daughter is academically gifted and is thriving at Caldwell. Our son has a learning disability and we have been so grateful for the additional support he has received. Each year Caldwell has added additional resources such as a learning specialist and different programs to help him flourish! Everything at Caldwell is done with intention and prayer and it truly shows. We cannot express how blessed we feel to be part of the Caldwell family!Parent Review2mo ago - New Garden Friends School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe preschool program is terrible & the admin does not care! These things happened in just 8 days of my child being there. I was told by 3 different staff members that would be able to stay with my 3 year old on his first day & get him acclimated because he has some attachment & sensory issues. On the 1st day of school they would not let me come in and I had to hand my child off to the teacher & leave. I then got an email stating that no parents are allowed on the playground or inside the classroom at drop off or pick up! Teachers never greeted me when i arrived. I consistently saw all 4 teachers in one spot on the playground, talking to each other, not supervising or playing with kids. When I asked about my son's day, they replied with only negative things or general statements like "it was a good day". When they told us that hand foot & mouth was going around the class, I asked how do they go about washing the toys with soap & water and disinfecting them, admin told me their teachers dont wash their toys because they dont have time. I finally see my child's classroom & its disgusting. Grime, food & dirt on toys, chairs, tables, & surfaces. Hazardous chemicals are kept where children can reach them. The teacher said my son had trouble opening his lunch & spilled it all on the floor. Said they dont have extra food for children so, he didnt eat lunch that day. He was STARVING when I picked up. My son had a big scrape on his knee that bled. I asked about it & he said he fell on the sidewalk. I asked the teacher & she said "I don't know". Didnt ask the 3 other teachers who were on the playground if they saw anything, just "I don't know, he didnt cry, so i dont know". Kids spend the whole day outside where they play by themselves & teachers socialize with eachother. They took my 3yr old on a bus, a mile away from campus & did not tell me! I went to admin with my concerns & they made excuses for each issue & offered no resolution & showed no interest in investigating. I emailed the head of school, told her I was taking my child out (yes and lose $12,100) & told her why I was leaving. I did not get an email back. I left her messages on the phone, no call back. Ive been a pre-k teacher for 18 yrs & this is one of the worst programs Ive seen. The staff put on a facade that they are a great school where kids can thrive and grow but they are not! If you currently have your child here, please ask more questions & pay close attention, you will easily see for yourself!Parent Review7mo ago - B'nai Shalom Day School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm so grateful for B'nai Shalom; a gem in the Greensboro community. My child has grown SO much much in her time at B'nai due to the thoughtfulness, creativity, and nurturing environment she is in each day. Parents and staff partner together beautifully, and I've found teachers always have gone above and beyond to meet a child's needs. I feel grateful for this community, and for the ability to watch my child flourish in it!Parent Review1y ago
