Read what parents are saying about Southern School of Energy and SustainabilityStudents at this school are given opportunities to decide on whether they want to 4 areas of study-Biomedical, Business, Computer Engineering or Construction Technology. There is also a Skills Pathway where students graduate with a certificate that they can use to get a job when they leave high school. The faculty and staff are dedicated to the success of all students. I will highly recommend this school.

Posted by a parent on 6/13/2022Southern School of Energy and Sustainability is a great environment for teaching and learning. I am not sure why it's rating is as low as it is but I have always heard great things about the school and have had conversations with parents, teachers, and students and they say many great things about Southern SES. Is the school perfect...NO, but they do a great job with the work on or fixing the items that need to be fixed. The teachers are extremely supportive and understanding. There are so many learning opportunities for students to engage in such as the Biomedical, Technology, Business, and Skills Trade Academies. There are many more opportunities for our students and is worth families taking a serious look at the school. Southern SES has a strong Arts and Athletic programs. The principals has been there for 8 years...he is fair, understanding and firm when needed. He truly care about his students.
Posted by a parent on 10/6/2021Above and beyond. I have had two daughters to graduate different years from Southern. This school set the foundation for my oldest daughter to recieve her Bachelors and Masters degree from NCSU. And my second daughter is on her way to UNCG in the fall...this speaks to the excellence staff and culture at Southern High School.
Posted by a parent on 7/19/2020I used to go to this school and got withdrawal the first month.. this school is awful for one. the teachers are lazy, the students are lazy and dont care. The school was orginally gunna get shut down by the state until they changed the name and decided to call it a magnet school.. its not a magnet school and they do not have any magnet school programs. They fool you when youre enrolling giving you a packet stating how you have to choose from these 4 different schools but when you get it into it, its just another regular highschool with regular highschool classes. If youre coming from a generally nice clean town, where everyone is friendly and you went to a majority of a white school... you'll have a very rough time here, i came from a white school & the majority of this school is black. I was not greeted or welcomed, i cried the first day of school during lunch in the bathroom i had no one to sit with.. and i had no friends. nobody makes an effort to get to know the new kid here, their all about their cliques and drugs. The graduation rate is so low, teachers have to put in a 60 for a student who does no work. Awful school. Please send your child somewhere else.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMerrick Moore Elementary School has prepared my child for Middle School. She attended this school for 6 years and only had one year that was not as successful as I had hoped. After talking to the principal my concerns were addressed. The following years were the best ever. In all the years my child spent at MME were very productive!! I will never forget the caring teachers at MME!!Parent Review2y ago - Oak Grove Elementary
