The faculty members are poised for performance, AP courses are offered. If only the school C (politically motivated) rating would be replaced with it's true A rating, morale would be increased.

I completely disagree with former reviews that academics may be lacking. AP and advanced courses are offered at all levels and my kids have always been challenged. My oldest actually spent a day at John Burroughs with a friend when she was in high school and came home very excited reporting that academically she was right where they were, she was easily able to keep up, and that their classes were taught in pretty much he exact same manor as the classes at UCHS. She was very well prepared for college, excelled there and went to college and grad school tuition free. She is currently working on a Ph.D. (She actually was always going to go into the art field but during her junior year at the high school she stated that she has always loved her science classes so much that the decided to major in science.) My middle child is still at the high school and loves school and is taking many advanced classes. They have both had the most wonderful, dedicated creative and supportive teachers. The guidance staff has always been extremely supportive and helpful with scheduling and any other needs that might arise. Both my kids have had amazing friends and have both talked about the fact that they never realized "cliques" and rigid social statuses at schools were a real thing. Diversity and individual differences are very much valued here. A couple of years ago a friend asked someone in the admissions department at Washington University how they rated U. City grads compared to Clayton,, Ladue, Burroughs, etc and the admissions person replied that they don't see any differences academically between the schools, but that U. City students tended to stand out in their essays in that the U. City students seemed to have an outstanding ability to see a whole world perspective and to understand that life is not just about them, and that they rarely see that in college applications. As a parent and an educator I would not hesitate to recommend U. City High. It really is an amazing gem and it's such a shame that more families do not take advantage of our wonderful school.

The new principal is very involved and open minded to our school now. She cares very much of the student' s opinions and I can see a great change coming in the new years. The academics may be lacking but it's coming up. I enjoy every day that I spend in Ucity and the opinions on the outside could never compare to the student's opinions from the inside.

My son graduated in 2016 and is currently in college doing very well. My daughter is currently in the high school and is also doing very well. UCHS has a large % of low income kids which brings scores down .. in ALL schools. UCity does as good or better job at addressing low income needs as best ANY school can. It does a fabulous job at offering all kids opportunities --- AP classes; sports; yearbook/journalism, robotics etc. Most sports and activities are open and available to ANY kid who wants to join: not just those kids who have had private experiences in the activity prior to high school. I CAN and DO honestly say that i am glad my kids went/go to UCity schools and that they are better off for it.

As a recent alumni and now college student I cannot fully express the great lack of preparation for college that University City provided. I was a student from k-12 this environment fosters bullying and racism. Many students are not adequately prepared for college and most drop out during their first year. If you have any other options DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE.
