Read what parents are saying about Parkway Southwest Middle SchoolHonestly, in my opinion, the waffle fries in the lunch room and the 6th Grade world geo teacher are the only reasons this place is 3 stars. Those are the 2 things that carry this school.
Posted by a student on 2/27/2024Well, I'm part of an IEP, and i have a few things to say. I am autistic with ADHD and severe anxiety, and this school has treated me very well, well... at least the teachers do. I'm currently an 8th grader at Southwest Middle School and i have my own mind to speak (only because someone else rated special needs 2 star and i think thats an understatement.) so here's my essay. Starting with learning, i feel like the kids are excited to learn when its the right teacher, if they disagree about a teacher they may willingly interrupt the teaching and learning. Next special ED. In my personal experience i have been treated with only the upmost respect. I have a strategy in tact and i respect how the teachers care so much that we feel safe. Next is teaching. Every teacher has a different, unique teaching style, so kids may excel better in classes with the same teaching style as their learning style. Other then that, the teachers as supportive and motivational. Safety is a hard one for me personally, as there are many different things that have happened. Someone else said fights are regular, this is true but they are usually broken up before it gets serious. I had a rock thrown at my head though and the kids didnt get a punishment for it because i didnt have enough "proof". I know this isn't the schools fault and is the districts but i still felt i had to at least mention it. This school (unlike some other parkway middle schools) actually helps our mental well-being and gives support to any LGBTQ or POC youth. Last but not least, family engagement. Now i am a very observant person and i know from experience that yes, this school does reach out to parents about lots, and lets parents join in on how they can change the school. So overall i would say 3 stars, the teachers are amazing and provide you with everything you need (special ED, any developmental thing) but they make mistakes every once in awhile, like any human. The issue is mainly the kids being self obsessed jerks to anyone that is different, but hey. thats just what middle schoolers are. This school handles it the best they can and that is why i personally recommend it.
Posted by a student on 8/19/2022The overall amount of harassment in school and online. Is just ridiculous and hurtful with no repercussions. Numerous fights breakout. With just a small in school suspension. Hard for a counselor to get their arms wrapped around the situation when they have a 234 student to 1 counselor. They do have some great educators there. students are bus in from the city to parkway middle and parkway south. These kids tend to be a hot mess. We eventually ended up removing our child to seek other learning opportunities.
Posted by a parent on 8/17/2022This school is a very good school! We moved from out of state and we have felt very welcomed. My son and daughter have had a grand experience to participate in band and orchestra. They have many opportunities for students to get involved. There are many parents that participate to make this a success along with the staff. The teachers have dillegent in their teaching. The couselors are in touch with the students and keep an open door about bullying or conflict.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll three of my kids attend this incredible school. Twin Oaks Christian School goes above and beyond to make them all feel seen and understood (academically and emotionally). One of the best things about this school are the smaller class sizes. This really helps each teacher and student value and respect one another through both their strengths and weaknesses. Being in a Christian environment has helped them develop a biblical worldview and mindset that I’ve seen play out in amazing ways through their relationships with one another, their peer groups and other relationships outside of school.Having a school that goes until 8th grade is a huge benefit for our family. This school has become more than simply a place to receive a wonderful education. As my son said to me recently, “Twin Oaks makes me feel safe and loved. It’s my home away from home!”Parent Review4mo ago - Christ Prince Of Peace School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSo far so good. My 3 kids have been attending this school now for the last 6 years and have enjoyed it. I've never felt out of place, nor have any of the parents treated me horribly. While it's true there are your parental "clicks", I really don't have time to concern myself with if I'm part of the "cool parents club" as the above poster mentioned. I drop off my kids, volunteer when I am able to, and pick them up from school. All in all, pleased with the experience thus far. We still have 6 more years here, so we'll see if this review gets updated within that time! :)Parent Review5y ago - St Joseph Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur daughter, who is a 4th grader, just transferred to St. Joe this August. She has been here for only one month but has changed a lot. She asked us to borrow lots of books from our community library and has read lots of them. She would stop reading and brush her teeth right after 8:30pm every night. What really impressed us is that she is not addicted to iPad anymore. She only uses her iPad to look up things she needs for her school. She would NEVER do these things voluntarily but now she has had these good practices ever since going to St.Joe. We are very happy with her big changes! She says she loves her school because the teachers and students are very friendly and the food is so yummy:) We love St.Joe!Parent Review4y ago
