Frost Elementary: We moved to the area last year and I enrolled all three of my kids in the school, I didn't get a chance to actually get the sense for the school with them only being in it for two months before the school year ended. With this year I have noticed that the school does not do very well at contacting the parents before the kids are placed into detention or I.S.T as they call it but I know it as I.S.S. And they do not do a very good job about stopping the bullying. I had numerous complaints from my fifth grader that he was being teased and picked on by one particular kid while no one at the school really handled it. The few times I stopped by and joined my children at lunch I quickly realized why they are starving when they get home. The poor choices and helping size for what they call a balanced lunch was very disappointing. I had finally found a teacher that agreed with me and helped me get help for my fifth grader and kept in contact with me all the time with how my child was doing in school. I did notice that my very smart second grader was slipping behind in school. I feel that the school as a whole could've done much better. I am not highly impressedPosted by a parent on 6/8/2013

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageExcellent staff of teachers who really care about the students. The Deaf & Hearing Impaired class is a wonderful resource. "Mrs. L." is the sweetest most compassionate teacher I have ever met and I am honored to have had my son in her care during his early developmental years. Some of the students are pretty unruly and there have been some issues with bullying which were not handled well by the principal but WERE handled VERY well by the teachers. For being one of many public schools in an economically depressed city, I think Bennett is an excellent option. Ms. Novak and Ms. Seagar are great, as is Mrs. Berringer.Parent Review8y ago

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy expectations were so high when I enrolled my children in this school. Long story short, I pulled one of my children out i the middle of the year and transferred him into another school, which was a hard decision to make. I am so glad I did because I now LOVE the school I transferred them to! I did not like the environment of the school as well as the leadership. The secretary was very unprofessional on many occasions. I will say that their teachers were very professional and friendly.Parent Review3y ago

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy rating is based upon observing grand kids, their skills or lack of skills, and their level of education being so so low. I believe they need to run from the technology that keeps them bound to screens instead of books. And the teachers or the school need better teaching material, and or tutors that can bring the children up to top levels before its too late.Other Review2y ago

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principal doesn't have a very good grip on the bullying issues or his special education requirements. This is just another job to him. He's nice but the school needs a better leader. They just want to push kids through and do nothing about bullying. The building has some great teachers but most the staff is the reason why the school is so bad. All this is allowed by the principal, Mr. Eric Kelly. Our son's education has regressed at the point he entered this building. They give us nothing to work on at home. He gets tons of 1's but they say he's doing great and gets his grade level work. This is unexceptable. We are most likely going back to homeschooling.... where he progressed and didn't get bullied and punched in the nose.Other Review4y ago

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have loved our time at SPA! The IB curriculum is terrific, and the focus on active learning, character development, and cultural awareness can't be beat. The teachers and admin are supportive and knowledgeable. Our daughter is being challenged in the classroom but not overwhelmed. She has great friends, and we feel like there has been amazing support there. We love the diversity and the foreign language curriculum. As parents, we have found many good friends there. We looked at many schools in the Jackson area, and this was the best choice for us. We have not had any bullying issues at all. We cannot recommend this school enough! :)Parent Review3y ago
