Read what parents are saying about Holland Middle SchoolLots of great teachers and principals at East. They really care about the kids and the parents. They have a lot of pretty cool things going on during the school day and after school and it is a very welcoming environment. They seem to have a number of very dedicated parents too! I volunteer here once a week and see great things happening on a daily basis.
Posted by a community member on 3/11/2015My daughter attended this school for 3 days before i switched her. In those 3 days she was bullied by another student, her eye glasses came up missing, and her teacher had the mind set that she could control my child. Holland Public Schools is supposed to have a "NO BULLYING" policy but they dont reinforce it at all. The student that bullied my child received no discipline for his actions. My daughters glasses were never found so i had to go spend another $200 on glasses so she could see properly. As far as the teacher controlling my child....that didnt happen. I put a stop to that. NO ONE controls my child but me and the school needs to know that they are only glorified baby sitters for 8 hours a day not the parents. I would home school my child before i would let her go back to a school that doesnt care.
Posted by a parent on 2/21/2015I spent 5 years at East, was there when it first opened as a K-8 school and couldn't be anymore prouder to be called an East kid. I spent the best years of my life at that school, where I felt at home and welcomed everyday. There is a tight community feeling at East K-7, and the teachers are amazing and honestly care for the students. Even though the rating is a four, I don't think it does justice to how amazing the school and staff are. If you wish to send your kids to a school thats open-minded and very accepting, East is a great choice.
Posted by a community member on 8/31/2013We have been at East for 4 years now and are so pleased with the school. It's extremely diverse, the teachers are passionate and knowledgeable, and the school works hard to create a real family atmosphere. The Science curriculum is especially rich!

I love how Mr. Derr (principal) greets kids every morning as they come to school. He goes great lengths to make himself known among the kids and they develop a healthy and safe relationship with an authority figure. He also has a passion for connecting parents and kids in tighter relationships. These are just a few reasons we love Holland Heights.Parent Review4y ago - South Side Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSouth Side has been described by many as a children s garden. What a beautiful metaphor. The children in our garden are lovingly enriched, patiently tended, appreciated and pointed always to their heavenly Father. Our staff is eager and equipped to meet each student where he or she is and to grow them into a deep and faith-filled relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Just like gardening can be messy, learning can be too. Together we learn about one another and discover how we can best meet the needs of each unique child. Children spend much of their time at South Side engaged in enriching learning experiences as well as developing their skills in a workshop model with teachers serving as coaches and encouragers. As you peruse through the pictures and pages here, you will find that it is our humble honor to pray daily with and for each child, to partner with parents, and to walk, one hand in your child s and the other in God s, as we grow, develop and learn togetherTeacher Review10y ago - Calvary Schools Of Holland

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a student who has now graduated, I regret nothing more in my life than spending 5 years of my education in this pole barn. Some teachers and nearly all the staff are extremely judgemental a demeaning to students. Their class schedule sets you up to fail in college, not preparing you with AP classes, or any other non-academic classes ie; woodshop, robotics, welding , etc. Chapel on Wednesday and Power Plus was the most positive experience at this school, but my last year there it deteriorated as well. The new staff changed our volunteering in the community just having the students work on the school or having "group time". The school has gone through 5 principals in the last 6 years, 3 of whom got fired or left mid-way through the school year. Also, from when I started 6 years ago, only 1 teacher has been there the entire time in the high school. The good things about this school, are that the sports and drama programs are inclusive, and their science program in the high school is very good thanks to a college professor who teaches it. I am a caring, christian, calvary alumni, and not just trying to bash the school, i just don't want other kids to have the same regret i do about spending my high school education there.Student Review6y ago - West

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHolland West has a wonderful community of students, teachers, parents and staff. Teachers and staff strive to provide an enriched and safe learning environment. My children have attended this school for 6 and 4 years. It is a k-7 model which allows older students to model and mentor our young students. Teachers in older grades collaborate with teachers in younger grades to buddy up and share learning. The PTO is vibrant. There are opportunities for after school activities and middle school sports begins in 7th grade. The band and orchestra programs begin in 5th grade and build into an excellent tradition of middle and high school music programs.Parent Review8y ago - Jefferson
