Hillsdale Academy

Hillsdale Academy has teachers who are not only smart and well-educated, but also wise. The staff is beyond kind, and Dr. Calvert knows his stuff, keeps the kids' attention, and earns their respect, in addition to being liked by hundreds of kids, including teenagers, which is no small feat. He goes well above and beyond to make sure the kids learn, in ways we have never experienced with much more expensive schools around the country. The school is the antithesis of Huckabee's and Jeb Bush's Common Core monster of indoctrination. It is truly a good, old-fashioned education, with the added benefit of the college facilities next door made available for the Academy's use. It seems impossible in today's world, but the kids actually write by hand in class and almost all homework; and the teachers teach, instead of texting, e-mailing, and surfing the Web!!! There are virtually zero behavioral issues. Cost of living is incredibly low, so the move here for the school (you only get one shot with those kiddos) has been well worth it! Next best option is one of the schools nationwide that utilizes the HA curriculum, but be sure to make sure the teachers are of a similar caliber.

My second child is getting ready to graduate from Hillsdale Academy. I couldn't recommend this school more highly! The faculty is outstanding, and the curriculum relevant and challenging. Where other schools "teach to the book", Hillsdale Academy, teaches to the student. Character building is as much part of the experience, as scholarly learning is. We are blessed to have this educational institution as an option, in the shadow of Hillsdale College. As my daughter choses which college to attend in the fall, her ACT score of 32, ensures she will have more than enough offers to chose from. Thank you Hillsdale Academy for all you do, and all you are!

My children, ages 10 & 12, were offered spots in their respective grades for the 2013-2014 school year. We had previously attended a catholic private school in Ann Arbor which I felt was academically challenging, however, we now have seen what exceptional curriculum really entails. Hillsdale Academy is everything we ever dreamed it would be and the teachers and staff have supported us in every way during our transition to the school. We have high expectations for our boys' education as we only have one chance, but Hillsdale Academy has exceeded our standards in every way.

Amazing curriculum-even the art program here is classical and traditional! Great teachers who really know what they are teaching too. The kids here are kind and friendly. Wish my kids had started here when they were younger!

A school that truly challenges a student to achieve to the best of their ability and truly prepares them for college. My child was finally able to transfer from the highest rated local public school in 7th grade (HA almost doubles class size for 7-12 grades) Although my child was in the 95% nationally on the Iowa tests in math, yet my child was one and a half (1 ) years behind his classmates who had attended K-6 at HA, caught up by grade 8. My child is currently in third year at a great university in a science degree program and on the Dean s list As far as "parent groups" soliciting reviews, those same parents they solicited could also have written negative reviews (which a few did). I am sure most other schools also solicit positive reviews likely at taxpayer expense. The high number of reviews by HA parents is Indicative of the high parent involvement at HA. This is an unsolicited review, we were never asked to submit a review while my son was attending HA or after.
