Read what parents are saying about Blandford Nature Centeras a former Blandford school student, my experience was amazing. the only way to fully understand the greatness of this program is to experience it. the teachers push you to your limits and beyond. blandford is the place that I met my 5 best friends, and we are still as close as ever. the way they slip nature into the daily learning is simply amazing. I love when we went into the woods and learned about everything around us. sometimes we would even go out there to have a conversation about math! the teachers create a friendly environment for the kids, while making it easy for us to respect them. I loved every minute of it, even when I was struggling a bit. I hope that this post may convince you to let your child go on to what I thought of as the best experience of my life.
Posted by a community member on 7/12/2012I recently left Blandford School and was amazed. The teachers pressing you to do your best by giving you assignments and projects that are not learned in some schools until much later years. Somehow, almost magically you learn all the material in your grade level too. But students must be prepared for hard work because with the advanced material, with extra learning about nature thrown in boot, there is no time for procrastinating. The teachers are always happy to help students that are lagging behind. If one student is having trouble they will help them while going on with the rest of the class. They also sometimes split them into to groups. At Blandford you make friends for life. If you or your child is going to this school be prepared for the best year emotionally, physically, and mentally you have ever had.
Posted by a community member on 7/12/2012I went to this school last year and it was absolutely awesome. We were outside everyday, rain or snow. The teachers were great and we really got to know all the other kids at the school. We learned a lot and it was the most fun I had ever had in my life. I definitely recommend it to anyone that loves nature and being outside.

It is a beautiful public city school which integrates the environment with every aspect of their schooling. There is a beautiful nature center attached to the school. http://blanfordnaturecenter.org

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Average10 yrs ago I LOVED this school . It was a community where I truly felt a partnership with the staff in my child's education, there was a no tolerance policy and entrance interviews with the principles, teachers including admin would walk the hall and say good morning. my child that's been in this school 10 yrs , academically she's doing amazing she has a few (3 to be exact )teachers who push her, motivate her and help guide her an A student never had a problem focused on work, cares about school . for her and kids like her, this school was a good school academically but for my other child who struggles , loves to talk , but can't really get the hang of math and reading this is not the school for those kids, no communication for a yr no partnership in her education not for lack of trying on my part . When asking the reponse was "no worries itll just click one day" I found out the next year she needed speech classes , and is so far behind in math and reading she would need summer school. I had to always ask for what we needed to succeed and always got the same speal. On top of the lack of communication about academics the violence in the classroom on a daily , weekly basis added to her lack of learning , and gave her anxiety about being at school where she felt unsafe . The last 3 yrs I began to hate so much about the elemantry that it's niche for being outside just isn't overcompensating enough for the more important things this school has lost.the community it once was , there is little to no transparency, communication, support , discipline. It is only had when the student tells the parent and parent has to then go to the school . Even when my kid misbehaved it was a bystander who told me what happened. So I could correct my kids behaviorLook at the numbers for this school if it's important. All this to say I do not believe this school has the staff or know how to handle kids with behavior issues , disabilities, or the like . I've stood in front the school board with this, now we're at a new elementary with our last HS yr left here . I am saddened at the direction this school is going and shocked elementary admin is up for a leadership award , and the new policy about no flags (pride) being up anywhere with a letter from a current teacher comparing it to religion shows how little community feel is left ,this use to be a place of acceptance for everyone including Christians & gsa just talk not condemn, do not attack without a conversation .Parent Review6mo ago - Shawmut Hills School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children go to Shawmut and we attend as a school of choice! The teachers are amazing and the principal too! The amount of care and concern with academics is amazing. This year my children tapped maple trees and learned how to take sap and make it into maple syrup! There is an edible garden where my kids plant and harvest vegetables, outdoor learning areas, monarch way-stations, and so much more! Shawmut is a hidden gem of GRPS! The PTA is extremely involved and they have so many ways for parents to be directly involved with learning. I highly recommend Shawmut! If you live in the area you should really stop by and take a tour - that’s what I did and I am so glad we made Shawmut our choice!Parent Review11mo ago - St Anthony Of Padua Elementary School
