In 2016 Creekside added the Summit Base Camp option for students. This has been a great program for my daughter. She has been able to move at her own pace, and received additional instruction when needed. She has learned to more effectively work in groups and for the first time has been completely engaged in learning and her academic progress. I appreciate that Dexter Schools Leadership is willing to try cutting edge educational options.

This is the worst school in Dexter. The principal is awful. Many teachers are awful. The staff who work in the office are awful. The mood is awful. The handful of decent teachers who do work there look tired and keep to themselves.

We too have had a disappointing experience. It really has a an odd, not welcoming and certainly not inspiring vibe. My son is is thriving at Mill Creek, the contrast in professionalism and energy of the staff at Wylie and Mill Creek are a stark contrast to Creekside leadership. Both years my son was placed in a class with a teacher who was good but we knew would be a terrible fit. Why? I don't know. All of his friends were scattered in different classes and I do think it was intentional. Kids who complement each other and push each other to do their best should be kept together and not used to break up the kids who are uninspired or struggling. Those kids need adults, ideally better parents and then strong teachers not children. My neighbors daughter is very quiet and super bright her parents begged for her to have a friend in class. She doesn't and now the school counselor wants to help? The school counselor last year agreed not being an island in class and social traction was imperative to academic development...they then placed her in a class with not friends. I find that odd.

In both area's of behavioral and academic expectations the entire school focuses on the lowest common denominator. Groups of hardworking smart kids are split up as a matter of POLICY and used for modeling good behavior. Follow through for bad behavior is NON existent. Our entire neighborhood has had issues at this school and have been told "it is the age." It is not. It is the school. Very few staff know the students names. It is bizarre. The children are greeted each morning by overwhelmed part time staff who look to be in a panic. The kids come into the building and have to "SIT, SIT QUICK" . But this is an improvement to last year when they had to wait outside because they could not be trusted in the school. Most of the kids are great, the staff just doesnt want to address those who are bad! Lazy. All the other Dexter Schools are greeted by with "good morning" and a principal who knows students names. If you are wrestling, falling asleep in class, running, throwing things, destroying things ....that student should be in the principals office and out of the class. The principal does not want to deal with these kids. The staff is told to 'figure it out.'

The 2013-14 school year was the first for the new administrator who came to fill the shoes of a very excellent principle. She just wasn't able to fill the shoes of her predecessor. The teachers were excellent and the school is using the Everyday Math Program which is very beneficial to the students.
