International School Of Louisiana Jefferson Parish

As the parent of a second grader, I have been impressed by the care and dedication the whole staff demonstrates towards the cultural growth and well being of the children. They have many cultural activities for the children to learn about three world and it's diversity and always seek for innovative ways to educate.

If ISL truly had the students best interests at heart, they would have enlisted the help of parents and the community to communicate with the JPSB on the need for a new location for the Jefferson campus. Instead, they are closing the doors on the school, leaving their current students at a disadvantage.

My daughter is now in 4th grade. She started at ISL in Kindergarten. She speaks, reads and writes in both Spanish and English. She loves that she gets to take Music and Art classes each week in her schedule. My daughter goes to ISL from the Westbank to the Eastbank. Bus transportation is provided for all Jefferson parish students thankfully!!!. - We have to catch the bus at 6:20 am at a HUB and she doesn't get off the bus until about 4:40. It is a very long day for her. But it is well worth it. The school doesn't mandate homework which is something I like because she does need some down time. However the teachers have told the students about websites to go online and do assignments and practice. She also has to study. - She also brings books in both Spanish and English home from the library to read.After seeing last years test scores for my daughter. She tested well above the average school and that is even with no actual English class until 2nd grade. -- -- Remember when looking at test scores and 2015/2016 test scores of a 91.1 B these children only get 90 minutes of English class starting at 2nd grade everything else is done in the target language. -- These kids are amazing!!!!

Great school. Teachers very involved in child's learning ... my daughter is already talking Spanish after only 2 months there and she looks forward to going to school everyday. Love the parent involvement and the activities they offer .

Not a good school. Had a concern about what my child was not learning. I met with the principal to voice my concern. She pretty much told me that my child is not as smart as I think he is. She printed test scores for me with another students name on them. She was so arrogant, that in trying to prove something to me she gave me test scores of another student! !!!!! The ONLY positive experience in this school is the language immersion. I pulled my child out after 2nd grade. Classrooms are combining students because enrollment has dropped as well as having a large amount of students withdraw.
