Posted by a parent on 4/18/2018Wow, this school is amazing! Everyone here is so nice, and there are NOT cliques, unless you count loosely tied friend groups that can't wait to mingle with new students. The kids who only want social admiration do not fit in here. The meanest student I have met in my 7 months here is- wait, I haven't met any! The diversity is great, at a very minimum 1/3 Indian, and 1/4 nonwhite. Nobody will call you out for being different, and the students support and stand up for each other. The teachers care about their classes and don't seem to be bitter or unhappy to be teaching. A few are strict, but nothing crazy, and students help each other. There are clubs like K-pop, chess, environmental, FBLA, Mustang community service, debate, and more. Academically challenged kids are helped and never ridiculed. The coursework, especially in honors classes, is difficult but manageable. Do not take honors classes if you have just transferred from a school that gave less than 45 minutes of homework a night. Many people join during the school year, it's normal! In a seating row in a class of mine, there's a girl that came from France, me, from Minnesota, a Kansan, and another from Pakistan. The school spirit and assemblies are cool and awesome! Athletics are equal with art and music.
Posted by a community member on 9/8/2016My family and I moved into Blue Valley from out of state. My parents knew the value of getting into the best schools and being around success and we weren't made of money! I went to BVN without trendy clothes or fancy cars and I had the ABSOLUTE BEST high school experience. The teachers were incredible, sports were really competitive, and school spirit was awesome. College was easy for me because I was so challenged as a student at BVN! I took minimal honors classes (teachers were all about this) and got a huge leg up in college. I got married and ALL four of my bridesmaids were my best friends from high school at BVN (including my sister). I was able to be in band and sports all at the same time with great coaches and mentors. It was a blessing to go to Blue Valley North!
Posted by a community member on 12/15/2015BVN is a high school of gifted students. When I say gifted, I do not mean those who solely excel in academics. Some students are gifted in the arts--others, athletics. Some are gifted with public speaking & leadership. Some are gifted in mathematics and sciences. The unique quality of BVN is that it not only helps its students discovers their particular gift(s), but also, it ensures that their gifts are fostered and used effectively. There is much more to a school than its test scores (which BVN already has covered), but success is abundant and well diversified throughout the BVN community. No, not everyone has As. Not everyone is successful at BVN, but unlike many schools, the opportunity for the student never goes away. Most negative comments of BVN involve students who have rejected the opportunity. BVN teachers & other faculty are more than willing to meet students half way in order to adhere to a student's need. However, this process and the responsibility to act is on the student. As a future senior, I can attest to how my gifts have been fostered and will be fostered over this 4 year period, and I could not be more grateful to be a fortunate member of the BVN family.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageUnfortunately, we had a very poor experience. (I usually don't write reviews, but I thought I needed to share). Some teachers were really great, but overall, it was not somewhere I felt comfortable leaving my kids and we left after a few months of really trying to make it work. At drop off, no teacher would engage with the kids, I had to leave my child crying on the floor by himself while the teacher just stood at the front. (This happen everyday. Even on the first day, no one even cared he was starting a new school) This teacher never interacted with the kids in the morning or evening, she also would snap at kids. They said the ratios would be 7:1, it was 11-13 to 1 most mornings (I was not there during the day, so I don't know). During outside time, most all teachers would just sit in the shade, no interaction with kids. (Again, a few really good teacher would play, but they could not be with all of the kids, Many board kids). This are some of the main issues, but they also lied about food. I saw them serve breakfast and snacks, and the food they put in my "note" was different from what they served during the day. They said the kids had a low sugar food in my daily report, but it was really a very high sugar food when I was there in the morning and at snack. This did not happen all of the time, but enough where I did not trust the report. Etc, etc, etc . . . (end of 2019- early 2020, we left)Parent Review3y ago
