Read what parents are saying about Mckinley Jr High SchoolI am a student at this school and I can say two things. HELP. ME. although this school has a great community and good teachers and a outstanding principal. This school is inadequate.
Posted by a parent on 11/29/2021I hate this school that's all I have to say. I would cry in the bathroom stall everyday after gym. One day I pretended to be sick to get out of there. I was so uncomfortable. Literally everyday a fight broke out. They bullied this girl that just came here from Africa out of the school. Everyday should would be insulted and called stinky girl. I'm so glad I moved. At my new school the students are very welcoming. My new school is mostly white people now but they made feel very comfortable. In Mckinley my social anxiety grew worse and worse but now I am trying to overcome it. Its hard but I am trying the hardest I can.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have been very pleased with the school and especially the leadership. My two kids were new. I saw nothing but caring and understanding from the principal when I dropped off my students and picked them up daily. I hear that from others as well. What I have witnessed is the principal ensures learning happens so no one student can interrupt the school without consequences or that parents come in being interruptive. Families are always trying to get into Greenwood and I will say living here and being in the school for three years now, I am nothing but happy. The principal has berm nothing but a blessing to the families I know and who have students in the school.Parent Review2y ago - Taft School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA Zero!!!! Terrible!! My Child was a Very Quiet, Sweet kid No behavior Problems. The Kindergarten Teacher even said he was Quiet but knew his Work. My Child said "Momma I didn't Learn nothing at that Stupid School." That's really Sad coming from a Six year old. I wouldn't recommend No Parent that Loves their Child, and Care about their Education, and Safety to send their Child to this School. It's plenty other Wonderful Nearby Private Schools that are better. I felt this Review was well needed; because I see there are No up-to-date Reviews on here. This is My True and Honest Opinion and Experience with my Child at this School.Parent Review5y ago - Laren Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you have a perfect and well rounded kid, they will do well at this school. If you have a child who needs additional support, this is not hte place for your child. The administration is predominately white. The students are predominately African American. The only African American teacher is the kindergarten teacher and gym the teacher. Many teachers don't know how to relate to African American students, especially the boys. The way they handle discipline is not equal. Some students are punished while others get a slap on the wrist. There was one male African American assistant principal or dean but he left after two years, and without notice. The principal is not responsive and avoids confrontation. Again, with a student body of predominately African Americans, there are not enough African Americans in adminstrative/faculty roles. Curriculum is solid and your child will get an excellent education if you fall in line and play by the rules. If you require special needs or assistance or would like your child to have a positve role model to interact with on a daily bases, look somewhere else. Lastly it's a little pricey, they do offer financial aid, but the school does not have an HVAC system, so if you have a child with asthma, hot chicago months will be a challenge. There are window a/c in the classrooms but the halls and rest rooms are not cooled and some of the window unites recycle outdoor air which during extremely hot and humid months is not the best air to recycle.Other Review7mo ago - Beacon Hill Preparatory Academy
