Read what parents are saying about Von Steuben Metro Science High SchoolEver since I got to this school i’ve been feeling terrible about myself, they drop kids from the scholars program which can mess with a students mental health as they may not feel smart enough or good enough. the whole scholar regular is a joke. it should not be a thing, just be a normal school and have honors classes and ap classes. scholars is unnecessary. the kids are also rude and inconsiderate
Posted by a community member on 6/20/2023My son is a sophomore in the Scholars Program at Von Steuben. He is challenged and supported by his teachers. They are always quick to respond to emails. I am very impressed by the school, the teachers, the administration, and the coaches. My son will be well, prepared for college.
Posted by a parent on 5/9/2020My daughter is a 9th grader at Von in the Scholars Program. This was her second choice school because she didn't get into the large selective enrollment high school she wanted to go to. However, her rejection from the other school has been a blessing in disguise. Most of the Von teachers and all of the staff whom I have met are dedicated and caring. My daughter can be challenging at times, yet the teachers have allowed her to make mistakes and to help her find her path again. She is now active in cross-country (with one of the kindest and most motivating coaches I've ever come across); Math team and Engineering team (the engineering teacher is super smart, super dedicated to the kids, and gets things done -- one of the favorite teachers at Von and she's reason enough to go to Von because of how she's expanded engineering at the school). Other good points: The scholars parents are involved and motivated - for the entire school, not just scholars. The school is safe and clean. Most teachers are very approachable and want the students to succeed. The administration works well together. I would recommend Von to anyone looking for a great school where you're not just a number
Posted by a parent on 2/3/2014I am an alumna of Von Steuben and am glad to know--through stories of friends' children--that it is still the excellent source of education and diversity I so enjoyed as a student there.
Posted by a community member on 1/30/2014There is a place for every student at Von Steuben. The diversity is astounding, and that fact alone should make every urban parent want to take a look. My son is a sophomore, and attended a very highly regarded elementary school. I am impressed with the efforts the school makes to make every child feel welcomed and valued. There is a level of attention to each student's success and a culture of nurturing that is perfect for my son. He absolutely loves the school and his teachers, and so do I. I have an older son who is at Northside, which has been a fine school for him, but would not have worked for my younger son. The stats for a school like Northside are seductive, but there is more to life than statistics. The idea that ratings alone indicate quality is limiting. I urge all parents to give Von Steuben a closer look. Visit, and you might be surprised at what you find!

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI did not enjoy my time at this school. Most of the teachers didn't make what they taught engaging in any way, I would end up failing classes because I would have no drive or motivation to do work for my classes. I thank my 7th and 8th grade english teachers for teaching engaging and informing curriculums that would actually stick outside of school. My social life was just as bad, I had to claw my way into social acceptance and would experience bullying from many different people frequently. The fighting was also terrible. I remember the grade not being able to get through graduation practice without fighting and there would also an obsession with drama in our grade. I've heard even worse stories from even older alum but mine still wasn't pretty.Other Review7mo ago - Haugan Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has been going to Haugan for two grades now. Kindergarten was great. He had a wonderful teacher and great classmates. His 1st grade teacher was also good and attentive. We were always being updated on progress via app. Easy to get into contact with teachers as well. This school has certainly stepped up it's game with the renovations and new playground.Parent Review2w ago - Hibbard Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has potential to be a great community school, however leadership and several of the staff would need to changed. Many of the front end staff is dismissive and disrespectful to both students and parents. The diversity in the student population is a positive to this school which is why I would love for a positive change in leadership and some of the staff. There are a few ladies in the main office who are wonderful like Mrs.Lopez and another hispanic young woman who are always helpful, kind and respectful.Parent Review1y ago - Volta Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe staff has terrible communication with the parents. The principal reads the emails but never responds, I have tried to communicate with Eduardo Yanez, but it is easier to have an appointment with President Biden than with this school director.Parent Review1y ago - North River Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTeachers are okay some better than others. Principal doesn't really do what is supposed to be done by a principal. He downplays problems with bullying and gets offensive when you want a meeting with the other child who is bullying yours parents.Parent Review1mo ago - Northshore Adventist Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience over the past 7 years has been great. As the principal/7th & 8th grade home room teacher I have seen great improvement in the moral and academic performance of all the students. We have a four tier awards program: Principals’ List 3.8-4.0+, High Honor Roll 3.5-3.7.9, Honor Roll 3.0-3.49 and Honorable Mention. The majority of our students are in the top two tiers. We have now added the 9th - 12th grades. With 9th and 10th as traditional and the 11th and 12th in a virtual online classroom association with Atlanta Adventist Academy.NSAA is growing spiritually with sharing our faith in the community as well as students accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior.Teacher Review9mo ago
