Posted by a community member on 8/1/2014This school is the worst school ive ever been to . yes , at first it was great but when it got to my 2nd year in it , it was the worst year of my life . Too much micronesians that bullies people . This is not where yu want to put yur child in . The teachers are so ungreatful and so mean . I talk from experiences.... and i am trying to move to another school right now.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePersonally, I feel that this school is great. There are many events hosted so students can connect with the faculty and parents. The staff are nice and know how to enforce safety within the school. My child has only been here for one year and I am enjoying my time here in Hawaii. The teachers keep in touch with the parents via Class Dojo and are quick to respond to an issue. My son hasn't been complaining and he too thinks the school is fun, safe and an indeed favorable school to attend. However, I would like it if the pick-up process would be less hectic because it can take up to 15 minutes just to locate your child. However, situations like these are rare, and I feel like overall, Shafter Elementary is a decent school to attend for military families!!Parent Review2mo ago - Kalihi Kai Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would rate my experience as average. From a teachers perspective, I personally feel that I have really worked hard to show my students how much I love them, and want them to succeed. The teachers I have worked with are constantly evolving to find ways to fix some of these issues I see on this website. If you are a parent considering a move to this school, please know that the teachers and administrators really care about your child. We will do everything in our power to make sure they have what the need to grow in their learning and social skills. We are not perfect, we make mistakes, but in my experience I have yet to meet one of our teachers not willing to make things right. Our clientele is varied in economic levels from homelessness to more than enough. Many of our students are facing hardships at home, or are dealing with a language barrier that is slowing them down. But, on the other hand many of our students are thriving! We have great school programs and sponsorships from the community that are helping raise the bar tenfold! We have such high hopes for the years to come, and can see a shift right around the corner! So in regards to our results from this website, I thought it needed a real review. Someone with their feet in the mud really working in this community to better the lives of these kids. I am very proud to have worked in this school because the students have taught me how to think outside of the box when learning looks rough, and great support from fellow teachers who are facing the same struggles. I can honestly say that I am a better teacher to have worked here. Go Rams!Teacher Review5y ago - Linapuni Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDespite being a big school with over 500 students, the staff are very much involved with each individual. Communication between teacher and parent is excellent. From K-5, they emphasize the need to take care of themselves and others. Incentives are given as a means of positive discipline. Not much parent involvement in the school, being that most parents work several jobs. However, the staff work extra hard to ensure that the students are up to par and enjoy learning. I was worried at first when my child transferred to the school in second grade. However, the Principal, VP and counselor made that extra effort to make it an easy adjustment.Parent Review10y ago - Kalihi Waena Elementary School
