Miserable. The few good guidance counselors they had have left. The good teachers are overworked and poorly paid. Many other teachers are barely competent and do not care about teaching. For them it's just a paycheck until they can find something else. How this school is considered A rated in Orange County says more about OCPS than anything about the quality of this school (or lack thereof). It is overcrowded, understaffed, and wholly ineffective.

There are a lot of hard working compassionate teachers and staff at this school. Unfortunately the leadership is substandard and borderline incompetent. The principal is not respected by the staff, she is lazy and is perceived as bully.

DO NOT SEND YOUR STUDENT TO THIS SCHOOL!!!!! It is horribly ineffective and the communication from teachers and guidance counselors is dismal at best.

My child attended Lake Nona HS during 2018-19 school year. The reason my child attended this school is because it was our neighborhood school. The school is too big to be effective. We have lived in other states with great schools, this is by far was the worst school we ever experienced. As a former educator, I also know what a great school looks like.1. My child's counselor was clueless about transferring classes from another school to Lake Nona. It took him over 6 months to transfer 1 year of classes, and still wasn't accurate. It required a lot of follow-up by me and my spouse with phone calls and emails. It took getting an assistant principal involved. This assistant principal wasn't much help, since he was unprofessional, rude, screened phone calls, and was sexist. Since I had a vested interest in the correct transfer of my child's credits, I was able to find information on the Department of Education website. The counselor actually asked me where I got my information from because I had more information than he did. 2. This school has too many substitute teachers. And, if they don't have enough substitute coverage, students sit in the auditorium with minimal supervision and complete busy work.3. We received more than enough emails from the school and/or district about threats against the school. These emails were always vague and I did not feel my child was safe at school.4. Almost all of the staff at the front desk, attendance office, and student support office are not helpful and just plain rude. They act like they are being put out for doing their job. If you work at a school and can't be friendly and helpful to students and parents, you probably need to find a new job.5. We came from schools that used an attendance line to report absences at the beginning of the day. The first time time my child was absent, I left a voice mail for the attendance office and sent an email to the 10th grade attendance dean about how to properly report an absence...I am still waiting for them to return my phone call and respond to my email from over a year ago. My child found out from other students, that a note is sent in after the absence. So, at LNHS it is 1985, a parent writes a paper note and the student turns in the note to the attendance office when they return to school.
