Read what parents are saying about duPont (H.B.) Middle SchoolHad my student teaching here. Some of these teachers have no idea what they are talking about.
Posted by a community member on 12/14/2023HB has been a great experience!!! Mr Bastinelli is very involved in all aspects of the school. Teaches are very engaging, supportive yet set high expectation and student accountability. HB offers several activities and clubs for students to try. PTA sponsors fall dances. HB is top notch!!!
Posted by a parent on 6/17/2023We have had two daughters in HB and have had ALL positive experiences. From the top down, this school is led by administrators and teachers who absolutely LOVE their students. Mr Bastianelli is super enthusiastic, always has a smile on his face, the administration are so helpful. The teachers are universally kind but have high expectations of their students. Nearly every teacher has responded within one day to my parent email inquiries. The counselor is present, observant and always there in a pinch, responsive on email. All of the specials teachers are also amazing with their subjects, teaching the kids more than just the academics, adding color to their lives with art, life skills with family and consumer science (essentially home economics), technology, languages, etc. The academics are amazing and their honors program really challenges kids to push themselves to their highest level of ability. We wholeheartedly LOVE HB and recommend it to anyone.
Posted by a parent on 1/29/2023My special needs child was not welcome here. I requested inclusion since it helped her beyond expectations at her elementary school however at HB the administration and the staff along with the educators made it clear they did not want my child in any type of inclusion setting. I was told several times by the principal that my child didn’t belong. Then after fighting to have my child put in an inclusion situation the school tricked my by putting my child in a gen Ed room with 100% of students who have IEPs. I asked for my child to be with higher functioning children so she would rise up. Communication is poor and the school and school district administration were dismissive of any reasonable request. I don’t understand why they are even working around children. They obviously don’t like kids that aren’t fitting their definition of “normal”. My child deserves so much more.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe Hockessin Montessori School has been an amazing experience for my 3 yr old son. He has been fine tuning academic and life skills. Everyday he is so excited about the work he has done and doesnt want to leave. His teachers are very knowledgeable and caring. The best part is the field trips and such an extensive curriculum. I look forward to seeing the growth and development for my son for years to come. I would recommend this school to any parent looking for a fun and well rounded education. My family has toured most of all the private schools and the area and this one has been the most catering and nurturing for my family.Parent Review1y ago - Wilmington Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll three of our children have attended Wilmington Christian School since kindergarten. We were looking for a school where:1. Christ is preeminent.2. That provides excellent education in the full range of academics, arts and sports.3. Where the children were safe.No school is perfect, and each family has to make the choice that is right for them. For our family WCS has been a great place to be. The teachers and administration do love the Lord, and this is reflected in their love and care for the students. Academically our children have done very well. Two have since graduated and gone onto to college where they are doing very well. Both received very good academic merit scholarships. During their time at WCS they participated in a variety of sports, arts and other activities. We do feel that WCS prepared them very well for college and for life.Again as we said earlier, no school is perfect (It is made up of imperfect people like ourselves). But one thing that has really stood out to us over the 16 years that we have been at the school is that at no time did the kids ever say that they didn't want to go to school. They have all made a good friends and found it to be a safe and nurturing environment in which to receive an education. We highly recommend Wilmington Christian School.Parent Review7y ago - Cacc Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI can’t be the only person confused about diversity at Sanford. This can’t be going unnoticed. They talk about diversity a lot and make an effort to incorporate it into most aspects at school but it seems like it’s not the reality. Head of school, head of upper school, head of middle school, entire admissions team and front office, art and theater department, counselors, deans, majority of coaches, majority of teachers, and majority of board of trustees are not super diverse. There are a few diverse people but very few. Honestly where are all the black and lgbtq+ hires? A black person in the performing arts department and more black kids in leading parts would be refreshing. Even the DEI representative lacks, with only a certificate and seems to be virtue signaling more than anything . The school could at least hire a someone with a solid DEI background and a lived experience for the position, and have that be a dedicated position to really help the community to do the work. It’s really disappointing because a real diversity experience was what was promoted but in reality it feels disingenuous. Wilmington Friends would be a better choice for a more sincere diverse experience for children. Sanford talks the talk but hasn’t fully walked the walk. Academically, athletically, artistically and socially the school is fine, nothing particularly special but solid.Parent Review2mo ago
