Read what parents are saying about Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet SchoolExcellent! Principal leads administrative team with positive energy; teachers are energetic and creative; all staff I have interacted with have demonstrated that they are happy to be at Winthrop. Student behavior expectations are clearly defined and consistently modeled and reinforced (my son has not experienced bullying). The PTO is well organized and very active, and interested parents may run for School Governance Council. So impressed with my son's progress in Kindergarten at Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School!
Posted by a parent on 2/5/2018This school failed to report to parents that staff who were supposed to be certified to teach, in fact was not certified. I wasn't notified until the school year had ended by mail. My child is below grade level and this very well could be one of the reasons. Class size is too big, not allowing children to receive the attention that is needed to learn, keep up and make progress. No support or help to family in locating resources to help child(ren) to catchup to be more successful. My child asked for help to understand presented information and the Substitute told her No. Today, my child went without lunch although it is free because no one ordered it although she put in the order. I have Safety concerns, after my children told me their life was threatened by an older student. I brought to the attention of staff and I'm not sure if anything was done because I had no rights to know what consequences were given because of privacy protecting the Bully(ers). My concerns were not taking seriously. A lot of bullying happens on the playground because there are not enough staff overseeing three whole classes. I see a lot of favoritism towards different students and parents.
Posted by a parent on 1/22/2013My daughter has been attending Winthrop since Kindergarten and my son will be there next year. One thing I love about this school, is their open door policy. Parents are always welcome. The staff has created a friendly atmosphere among themselves and with the parents and students. I wish more parents were involved so they can see how great of a school it is as well!

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has not only grown as a learner since coming to this school but has enjoyed going to school for the first time ever! He started in 3rd grade and continued through 5th. I have to say it has been the most enjoyable experience as a parent to see my child WANT to go go school every morning! The principals are top notch and I really can't say enough about the teachers and staff. Our family has been so blessed to have become part of this community.Parent Review6y ago - Sacred Heart School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI thought by sending my son to this private Catholic school I was giving him the best education and opportunity. I had gone to Catholic school all my life and had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately that was not the case with my son and Sacred Heart. After my son was diagnosed with a medical condition, Sacred Heart refused to accommodate his special needs. Even after granting them full access to talk to his team of doctors, review of his medical records, and a doctor created care plan for school, the new principal chose to tell us a quarter of the way into his second year he wasn’t welcome. Unfortunately that was not the only issue we had, or other parents have had. Bullying is not reported to the parents or controlled by the school. My nephew (also a student) was held down and kicked and stomped on by his classmates at recess and my son came home several times having been punched, put in a headlock, etc. There was lots of verbal teasing as well. To put the icing on the cake, one of my son’s teachers (knowing all about his special needs) told him he’s an animal and didn’t deserve to be at Sacred Heart. For a school that claims Jesus is at the heart of everything they do, I am appalled at how my son was treated. It even lead to 2 suicide attempts. Thankfully my son is now in the local public school, receiving top notch support, and he is THRIVING. He’s also receiving a much better education and is surrounded by competent educators. Also, after kicking him out due to his special needs, they kept the tuition. Absolutely disgusting behavior all around and not a place fit to teach children.Parent Review3mo ago
