East Haddam Elementary School

I am not from a small town and was nervous about what the school system here would be like. I have had 3 kids and will have my 4th attend here. We love it! Communication is excellent between parents and teachers. I do not have a Gucci bag nor do I see anyone else with one…so there’s that. I participate in the PTO and find that has been really beneficial to really knowing the staff. The only thing I notice and wish was different is that there are not a lot of minorities here, but that has nothing to do with the school itself.

Absolutely the most horrific school system known to man. They do not listen to anyone about anything. The kids are just taught nothing but promoted because it makes the school look bad to hold anybody back and actually teach them. I don't know where they're getting these student to teacher ratios but it's a fallacy there are many kids in each classroom. The administration is terrible. Many of the residents in town work very hard to get their kids out of the school system. And if you have an IEP forget about it it is just the worst. Do yourself a favor don't move to this town.

My son did so amazing here as a kindergartener!! His teacher was supportive and encouraging. Within a year he was so confident and loved by so many new friends. You can tell the staff love what they do and how much the principal supports them.

This school was so horrible to my child with special needs, they repeatedly ignored his therapists, put him in the hallway alone to not have to deal with his disability, stuck him on a computer in a corner while continuing to teach the able children, constantly punished him for his disability, and even made false claims to DCF on me for advocating for him. It got so bad my child said they would rather die than stay in school at which time DCF was called on them. Do not move to this town if you have a special needs child, the struggle continued into HS.

I have 2 kids in the elementary school and no Gucci bag. I have had nothing but great things to say about this school system. Classrooms are not crowded. And when most schools were remote or part-time, our kids were in school. Communications are ALWAYS ongoing between teachers and staff. Tech is on par with any district. EVERY classroom has heat AND A/C. So no delays for extreme heat. Kids get chrome books and access to various learning sites, so not sure what else you’d expect. Bottom line, your kid will get a great education without being a number in bigger districts.
