Pagosa Springs Elementary School

My child is happy at school. Of course there are some bumps, but seems to be gaining lots of good experience and good learning.

My daughter is excelling in 1st grade and very happy with staff at Pagosa elementary

Staff cannot get parent's name right - they keep calling me my child's name instead of mine although it has been brought to their attention several times... 1st grade teacher - INCOMPETENT! Almost every morning arriving late, looks and acts half asleep every time we meet with her. The favoritism to certain children is unbelievable.

Don't let the ratings deter you from putting your kids in this school. It really is an excellent school that values the whole of your child and not just the test scores. We've moved around and been through several schools, some of which had extremely high ratings. But I like Pagosa Springs elementary far more than I liked the schools with higher ratings. The academics are just as comparable to other schools I've seen, but the emphasis on the whole person is better than any school I've experienced! For example, the kids have some form of PE class every day which is so beneficial for them to be exercising, playing games/sports and getting outside during each school day. I have 4 children and plan to put them all through Pagosa Springs Elementary.

Your child will be held to the lowest standard. There are no advanced students. If your child is advanced they will quickly be held at the level they are until other students can catch up. My child in 4 th grade just brought home simple addition homework. She did that in first grade. Only other option is home school which so many people do here in Pagosa.
