Werner is a mixed bag. Some of the teachers are excellent and really care. Some of the teachers are worn out, tired, and mean to the kids - truly. There's even a 3rd grade teacher who's been there for about 30 years who teaches factually incorrect material (outdated world maps, for example) and shames the kids who are slow workers ("No recess for you!"). The principle is extremely intimidated by these tenured teachers and though there are tons of parent complaints (I know of several), nothing ever changes. And yet, we had a spectacular teacher there 3 of my child's years -- truly committed, compassionate, people. Thus, the "mixed bag" rating. Also, it's a high stress, highly competitive school with a lot of neurotic helicopter parents, so be aware of that. Ultimately, very disappointed with the leadership (principal) . but if you "luck of the draw" get the good teachers, you're set. (Oh, and one more thing -- they do NOT want to truly accommodate students with special needs, so they will refuse testing or do incomplete testing or stall on testing so as not to deal with it. Parents have to do tons of expensive external testing and bring in results to enforce accommodations to be put in place to support their kids).
