Duxberry Park Alternative Elementary School

As a first time parent of a columbus public school, I've been very impressed. I've been kept informed of my child's progress, behavior, and any updates pertaining to the school overall. My son is excited to go to school everyday and very eager to let me know what he's learned everyday. So far, very pleased as a parent.

The teacher cares about my Child but she is special needs and isn’t learning anything Columbus City needs a school for disabled students

The children are forced to be quiet during lunch. One word, even to say, "Stop bothering me" or "Please leave me alone" and they are a rushed to a "special" table in front of the school to finish their food. Once there and finished eating, they are ushered to a room where they are not allowed recess. Children are not allowed to explain themselves.If enough children speak, again, just a single word, the entire lunch room is denied recess. Keep in mind, a lunch room is comprised of either grades K-2 or 3-5, has at least 6 classes with 18+ kids to each individual class. That's more than 100 students. This number is arbitrary and doesn't have to come close to even 25% of the students. 10-15 students uttering A SINGLE WORD can cost the whole room recess.The only place I can think of that treats people like this is prison.

The principal is very involved with the school and the students. The teachers are great about discussing your child's academics thoroughly, with suggestions for the child to improve. The school is very inviting to get parent participation. The art curriculum is awesome. I love this school.
