University Preparatory School

Where do I start... too many requirements, too strict with uniforms, and too much homework. The school does not promote individuality or support students. I was constantly being called at work to take my child a belt...... My child is very thin, and finding fitting clothes was hard. Also, you'll spend a fortune on band equipment and uniforms. They go as far as being extra picky with their shoes! I do not recommend this school at all. My child had the worse experience. She went from getting good grades to suddenly declining very quickly. Your child can get an excellent education without going to a "school for smart children." My child was fearful of her teachers and making any mistakes that could jeopardize her stay at that school. My child was stressed all the time!!!. Also, if your child gets a low grade in even 1 class, they'll kick them out of school! beware, parents, only some things that shine are gold!

This is easily one of, if not the best school in the county. My student isn't overwhelmed by the amount of homework he has, as some have complained. He actually seems to have far less than I remember having at a very competitive, private high school. The majority of the complaints are not actually related to the quality of the education provided. If parents are too cheap to pay for uniforms, to the point that they would transfer their student to a lesser school, that should tell you more about the reviewer than the school. Is it the most affordable school? Not exactly. But would I be foolish enough to complain about a private school quality education for a fraction of the price? No way. The primary focus of this school is education. They ensure the environment is conducive to a positive learn environment. If you're worried about your student being overly challenged academically, don't enroll them. If you want a school with a great athletic program, this isn't the place for you. If you want a quality education, there is no better place in the area than University Prep.

As a former student, UP discourages individuality and promotes unhealthy work habits, rooted in fear of public ridicule. Don't be fooled by the high college "preparatory" spiel, a large percentage of my 2015 high school graduation class has since dropped out of college, because, believe it or not, preparing students solely to pass tests is not conducive to overall development and adulthood readiness. Students become disillusioned by the disproportionate perception of responsibility. College isn't for everybody, and this school will never understand that.

This school achieves high ratings because students scared and are judged on test scores alone.
