Excellent environment for child development and growth.Posted by a parent on 5/12/2018
Our child had a hard time adjusting to public school. He is special needs with a special diet and learning issues. He feels at home at OMS. He loves his teachers and is no longer bullied. It is a great school with amazing teachers. He is now in a safe environment.Posted by a parent on 2/28/2015
I am a clinical psychologist who is extremely picky about my child's education. I did a TON of research before deciding on this school. I am not Catholic and do not want a Catholic education per se. However, this school is undoubtedly the best in San Luis Obispo, perhaps the entire county, and I am so happy we chose it! The academics are wonderful, the way children are treated is amazing, and the teachers work so very hard. Any concerns we have had were listened to and the children are held to a high standard while treated with warmth. Although it's one of the most expensive schools in SLO, it is not expensive AT ALL compared to other California private schools, and the academics delivered are amazing. For a non-Catholic, we have always been welcomed and still believe our child is learning valuable lessons. Great job OMS!Posted by a parent on 11/20/2014
My child attended Old Mission from Kindergarten to 7th grade. Exclusionary mean behavior is promoted. There is a 'reporting' policy that is really just approved tattling. Supposedly the reporting is suppose to be only serious things but any kid who wants to torment another kid can report on the other kid and facts are not checked. If your child is picked as a 'problem' child then any and every report is completely believed. It is a horrible system that promotes and condones bullying. The emphasis is on what is wrong and punishment rather than a more positive Christian approach. The school does an excellent job in the academics and the teachers are generally excellent but it is the other stuff that causes issues. The project load in 7th and 8th grade is so much that there are a lot of overloaded stressed kids with parents doing a significant amount of helping with the projects. If your child has any kind of special needs then don't send your child to this school - they make no accommodations for special needs and generally torment the quirky unusual child.Posted by a parent on 8/17/2014
My son attended OMS nativity preschool for P 1 & P 2 (3 & 4 year olds) and we were very happy with our time there. The class sizes were small an the teachers were wonderful, loving and very attentive. Mrs Oneil in P1 is a patient and easy going teacher which made our sons first year there very nice. Mrs Torres in P2 has been teaching there for more than 20 years and was an exceptional asset to our sons learning experience. She was patient, kind, loving and nurturing. She went above and beyond to help him succeed in every way possible. We will always remember the amazing teachers we had at OMS nativity.Posted by a parent on 3/20/2014

- Smith (C. L.) Elementary School
6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Average10!! I moved to this neighbor specifically to have my daughter attend cl smith from tk-6th. The teaching staff are beyond amazing and the principal is approachable, understanding but very strong and capable with issues that may come up on an elementary school campus. I recommend this school to all of my friends with elementary aged students!Parent Review1y ago

- Hawthorne Elementary School
7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love Hawthorne! This is our second year and we have had a wonderful experience so far. The principle is incredible. He actively works to help the kids get the best possible education. The teachers are top notch! My youngest had a rough start and the school teachers, principal, special needs teacher, school psychologist all kindly, patiently, and thoroughly worked with my child and us. Both of my kids love going to school. We love that this school is San Luis Obispo's downtown school. Lot's of history and diversity. The kids at this school are also exceptionally friendly and kind. My oldest son is very shy and he's only been treated kindly by his peers. I hope that continues. Thank you Hawthorne Elementary for helping give our kids a great start to their education!Parent Review7y ago

- Pacheco Elementary School
6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers and principal of this school (2006-2014) are extremely dedicated to making sure your child has a positive experience at learning. They expect your child to perform but at the same time offer a tremendous amount of support and encouragement. Both of my children are attending this school and both are learning Spanish. The parents are very involved and the care and attention this school gets is reflected in the culture and atmosphere to be found at Pacheco. Such a difference from when I was in elementary school!Parent Review7y ago

- Teach Elementary School
9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe chose to send all our children to Teach for a multitude of reasons, but the primary one was the accelerated, project based learning. Our children went from restless and being told they couldn't "read books above grade level because it makes other kids feel bad" to encouraged to excel. The hands on learning, numerous walks to Cal Poly, electives, and creativity encouraged at Teach allows students to thrive. At our home school the lack of ethnic diversity was both stifling and stressful. As an ethnic minority we found numerous incidents of racism, and although they were addressed by the teachers. At Teach we found much more diversity with students of all colors, many of whom spoke a second (or even third) language at home. Teach is a valuable resource for the SLO community, and we are looking forward to seeing the program grow in the years to come.Parent Review3y ago
