We chose to send all our children to Teach for a multitude of reasons, but the primary one was the accelerated, project based learning. Our children went from restless and being told they couldn't "read books above grade level because it makes other kids feel bad" to encouraged to excel. The hands on learning, numerous walks to Cal Poly, electives, and creativity encouraged at Teach allows students to thrive. At our home school the lack of ethnic diversity was both stifling and stressful. As an ethnic minority we found numerous incidents of racism, and although they were addressed by the teachers. At Teach we found much more diversity with students of all colors, many of whom spoke a second (or even third) language at home. Teach is a valuable resource for the SLO community, and we are looking forward to seeing the program grow in the years to come.
