This school was simply terrible in academics. I am certain that almost all students failed the science portion of the aims which is a very big concern as it is a standardized test and can hurt them later on. Also, they tend to dote on the conservative students and call them smart for no reason. One student was given amazing honors but when I switched my schools I could see she was more or less behind everyone else because even the advanced curriculum was critically behind. For science class, the students watched Brain Games for the majority of the classes which is concern as it is also like that in 7th and 8th grade which is the precursor to difficult science courses (for kids that attend here) in high school. Students of the teachers (who had absolutely no credentials) were shown extreme favoritism and were allowed to simply not attend class and walk around the school. Instead of teaching the class, the teachers would often talk to students instead for their ‘friendship problems’ which only applied to one group of students. The student council was also extremely biased and would lie about which students names got picked, simply stating their friends name instead leaving many students at a disadvantage considering that in order to gain leadership roles in high school which matter on college applications which they weren’t able to gain because of dishonesty. This school was missing most of the core classes with the only classes being taught were English, Spanish, Language, PE, Science, Social studies/Economics. Each class had SEVERE problems which hurt plenty of the students when teaching high school. Spanish had MAJOR MAJOR problems and issues. First of all, nothing was taught to the students. Nothing at all was ever even mentioned by the teacher. When time came for grades, since the students were given no actual assignments, the teacher would give everyone 89% except for the favorite students that were given actual good grades. The entirety of the class was spent on Bingo with vocabulary that was never taught. The Spanish teacher also had no credentials and was simply a parent that could speak Spanish. Also, the teacher it was best for everyone to do a dance instead of learning to perform at a local festivals. Students that were unable to attend as it was on Saturday because of religious reasons that required to be in church on that day, were (continued )

While many in the community believe this school is no longer run by the founder, it still is. THis is a terrible school in most areas. Safety is a big problem in class and on the playground. They have cameras, so classes are often left unsupervised for meetings. Untrained parents and aides monitor "most" of the playground. Parents run PE. The only thing they do right is regular tutoring after school. The staff hand picks all students in a screening system. They put kids on a waiting list, mostly because they are small and do not have enough room to accomodate (not because they are a great school). This school attracts a strange crowd of helicopter parents, but does have a few good families attending. The principal gets rid of kids not making the grade or high test scores since this makes them look bad. Due to the overly conservative rules, she can use anything to drop them (hair color for example). Interestingly enough, even with the students and adult's questionable ethics, they were still outscored by the local middle school this year in all areas.

I disagree with the last two post. My kids have been going there for 5 years and I am very involved in the school and here are the facts. Yes, the budget as a charter school really limits the facilities and the amount our teachers can get paid and that can cause turnover. This is also not the place to send your child if you want their life to revolve around sports. And the principle is not your typical administrator. But she is the founder of the school and has her doctorate and expects kids to actually behave and be respectful! In response to "the kids run the school", well in some respects they do. They have duties like preparing the Thanksgiving dinner, sweeping up the lunch area and cleaning the kitchen daily. There is also a buddy program that gives responsibility to the older kids to help mentor the younger students. They have a lot of duties and take a much larger role in the success of their school than other Safford schools. And parents are often involved with helping out in class because they want to be there and it helps the budget. There are no busses and there is not a cafeteria. This again requires involved parents. It isn't perfect, but it is the best in Safford!

As the previous reviewer stated, all new teacher's again, standing joke. This past year there were 3 1st year teachers and 1 2nd year and 1 3rd year teacher as close as I could figure. That's the whole staff of teachers since the school is combo classes. Paid parents teach PE and music, and paraprofessional teaches Spanish, a parent for aids when aids are fired, again, probably due to inaccurate gossip. !Gruff principal! teacher's with attitudes, mostly about fashion and their appearance. Kids run the school. Not sure why the good aims scores, probably the previous writer had it correct when she stated "Students constantly cheat".

This school is the worst I've seen in all my years as a teacher. The students are constantly unsupervised, the principal is very unprofessional and never supports her teachers in matters of discipline or even basic curriculum. Of the five teachers at this school, 4 of them are brand new because all the teachers quit or get fired due to inaccurate gossip. The PE & language classes are run by parent volunteers or non-certified aides. The grades are combined, the facilities are terrible and there are hardly any extracurricular activities. The few activites they have are lacking in money, talent and spirit. Students constantly cheat, pick on each other and have very little respect. It''s very sad that this is a school and this one gives a bad name to "charter school".
